Hi,
Ive just taken sat (last saturday) and im expecting around 1900(due to my first and prob. last Sat) .I wanna get addmission in US college(financial aid needed).

10th class 88% up board

11th class 92% cbse

12th class 94%(surely expected)

1) Ive just taken sat so scores will be available on 23 dec 13. Now Im confused cause ive only chance in jan.. Should I take sat subject test? Or get back with my iit jee adv preparation (yes, im an iit aspirant.got 2 years coaching and sure enough to get into iits). But now im slightly reluctant towards indian eduction...

2) does i have any chance in us university (like cornell, princeton or nyu)? If u have any other university in mind suitable for me,pls mention...(best for cs)

*Ive been a scout leader(2yr)
*I won best student award in 10.
*Im an artist as well. I draw sketches and water paintings(good enough )
*Im not good in sports at all.
*Ive been awarded for social work in 10.
*I havnt done much in 11-12 due to iit-jee.
*Ill have recomandations from top ranked IIT qualified teachers.

So what do u guys think? Should i go furthur??

Decide fast. The deadline for most universities is Jan 1. If you take the plunge it will take a lot of your time that you could use for JEE prep. Your expected SAT score seems low for (ivy league)/(other selective) colleges. Other colleges also offer aid but they are not as good as IIT (If you are sure about getting into IIT). Also have you taken TOEFL?
If you ask my personal opinion, perhaps it is best to continue with JEE prep.

I got 103 in toefl.
What about ucla? Can i get addmission there…
Im sure to get selected into iits but i want cs and i know Ill get around 4000-5000 rank. So ill get a low college(may be from new iits). Thats why i was thinking for US…

I agree that studying CS from US is better than studying with unwanted branch in a new IIT… Don’t know the names of many colleges though. Maybe someone else can help?

Thanks for all dreamyindian:)

Try purdue. It is in the top 10 for cs in USA. Your gpa is great and purdue has a good acceptance rate. But you have only 18 days to submit your application. So you should prepare the admission essays quickly. You should be able to get in with your sat score. The only hindrance is that purdue does not offer scholarships for international students. So good luck!

ps
They don’t require sat subject tests so don’t waste your time.

You should look for big state universities with good CS programs. They, usually, don’t require Subject tests so you should be good with the SAT. You could look at Maryland, and Wisconsin. Not sure about aid there, but very popular amongst indian applicants.

I would’ve suggested the UCs and University of Washington but the deadline has already passed. :(

Chances are very slim in the ivy s…
Well no offence… But your ECs can’t make up for ur sat scores.
There are applicants from India with much better ECs and with same/better scores.
So, better just give up ivy. Purdue is a good university. No aid issue? Well u can get a loan and easily pay it back. Consider Gtech as well!
Good luck!
PS. Keep some safety schools. What if u don’t get into any of these and also loose ur chances in good colleges in India?
So… Keep a lot a safety schools!
