Hi! When I submitted my application I checked the financial aid box, but I don't want to apply for aid anymore. What should I do??? Thank you!

Call the school’s admission office and tell them you no longer wish to be considered for financial aid.

However, unless you applied to one of the school which are need-aware in admissions checking the FA box on your application won’t influence your admission decision.

@WayOutWestMom thank you for your answer! If I am an international student I should call my regional counselor, not the admission office, right? And the school is need-aware for international students, so it would be better to call them as you said.

Yes, call and send an e-mail. Ask where to address the e-mail as to who should have the info to put it right on the file.

Be aware that when you are accepted to a US college, you do have to come up with a list of how you are going to pay your way when applying for a student visa. Also schools are well aware of internationals who apply without fina aid apps, and then want money later, and have policies in place for that situations. Do not expect to get aid for future years when you applied requesting no aid at the onset.

This is VERY true. Do you have funds for ALL FOUR YEARS?

Schools have become VERY aware of int’ls who only have funds for ONE year and don’t apply for aid…thinking that they’ll pay for one year and then apply for aid for the next. Won’t work in many cases. Schools are “on” to that trick.

If you’re going to need aid during the four years, apply for aid now.

I am aware I cannot ask for aid later, and I currently do not have funds for all four years.

My parents definitely cannot pay $60 a year, but I think I will look for scholarships at my home country instead of applying for fin aid, because I feel like asking for aid will hurt my application since I am an upper middle class student.

I honestly am not sure if I am eligible for fin aid. My parents definitely can’t pay the whole tuition, but does that make me eligible for aid?

The inability to pay does not make you eligible. Aid is based on need…on your parents finances.

How much can your parents pay per year? I don’t know what country you’re in, but only a very small number have big scholarships for their students to study abroad.

What’s the point of getting accepted if you don’t have funds and would have to leave???

@brbrbr may I ask what country you are from?
I am also an international student and there is no way my family can afford to pay $60k a year either so I am applying for financial aid. Since you are not sure how to pay for college, wouldn’t it be better to apply for financial aid although it might hurt your application?

You can fill out the NPC the best you can and see if the school considers you eligible for aid. But as others are asking, if you can’t afford to pay the cost of the school, and you are not applying for aid, you may just be prolonging your misery here. My guess is that you are hoping some money falls into your lap to pay for the college if you get accepted. IF there is some chance of that, than go to it, take the chance. Just be aware, that you are most certainly not going to get financial aid from the college if you don’t apply, and likely willcontinue to be ineligble for aid unless there is a provable change in circumstance in your family finances in the future.

I’ve personlly seen kids apply and get accepted to schools they cannot afford, and then they cannot return after the first year which they sometimes can manage to scrape up the money for, often times involving loans their parents should not be taking.
