What should I do?

Hi. I am currently enrolled in Brandeis University’s Neuroscience program. The academics are stellar, but I am NOT enjoying any other aspects of the college – many of the students are ridiculously ‘shy’, the area is uninspiring and the campus is altogether ugly! (these are not my main reasons for wanting to transfer). I am certain I want to transfer to another college, potentially a school in California, but am unsure on how to go about one application requirement.

My high school GPA was very good (3.7/4.4), and my college GPA for freshman year was a 3.97.

However, since Brandeis has a Test-Optional Policy, I decided NOT to send my score (a mere 1980) because I do not think it reflected my high school performance. I am an AWFUL reader, so my reading score was ~150 points lower than my other two scores.

Anyways, most colleges do require SAT/ACT scores for transfer applicants. What should I do about this? My 1980 is not going to get me into a competitive school. Could I take the ACT, which I have never taken before, send in the ACT score, and NOT send in my former SAT score?

Thanks

Bump!!!

Your old test score really doesn’t matter now - yes it might be required, but they won’t care that much about it. What matters most is your college transcript, and your grades are excellent.

Before you spend money and time on the ACT, find out if the places on your list will accept an ACT score from an exam taken after you start college. Many won’t.

Thank you for the response @happymomof1.

I checked many of the schools websites. The ones that do indicate a required SAT/ACT score do not specify whether they will accept an ACT score taken as an undergraduate student.

Then contact them and ask. You need to find out about this. It often is not explicitly stated on the website.
