What should I do?

I would only borrow 200k if I went to a UC school freshman year. But I want to go to California community college for the first 2 years so it would be more affordable. I would be borrowing but it would be significantly less than if I went to a UC initially.

so you still need to borrow north of $100k to pull this off. If so, it is a HUGE mistake that will haunt you for the rest of your life. I can’t say this emphatically enough - DO NOT DO THIS TO YOURSELF OR YOUR PARENTS.

I don’t know that much about your situation but, you would probably be best served going to a CC in Hawaii and then transferring to a WUE CSU - CPP is a WUE school with a 4 year grad pledge (2yrs for transfers) As i noted above, Chico, Sac are also solid options.

With your stats, privates like LMU and USD are pretty likely to offer enough aid to take you well under that amount - Their degrees are quite credible and you will graduate in 4 years virtually guaranteed -and you have no transfer risk. - as several people have noted above getting into UCB or UCLA in biz simply isn’t likely to happen. Look at the link i provided above - UCB had an admit rate of 6% for biz transfers. LA was 11%.

.
Good luck whatever you choose

Yah I totally understand. The debt for college is tremendous.

Also, I looked further into the acceptance rate into biz school, more specifically UCB Haas. According to this link, significantly more than half of the Haas transfer applicants were instantly denied due to not completing required course list. http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/class_profile.html

@Wopo07 , alternatively, to save costs, consider going to Univ. of Hawaii for 2 years and then transfer to a school like USC for business. Many have taken that path. USC’ undergraduate business school is ranked in the top 10 or 12 and highly regarded. If you want to have a chance for UCB Haas, the CC route or getting admitted to UCB as a freshman, are the best route to transfer to Haas. However, for both schools, have backup plans since both schools are competitive to get into.

University of Washington in Seattle is another destination many Hawaiians like, if you don’t mind another state other than CA. Their Foster business school is a top 25 undergraduate business school. I hear of Hawaiian friends discussing UW.

Ok I see. Thank you for the response. I really like the USC approach as well from UH. Also, a lot of people at my school are talking about attending UW as well haha.

I am knowledgeable on this because 2 of my Hawaiian friends went back to Hawaii to work for Big 8 firms and their kids went to Punahou High and later to the mainland for private colleges. My brother in laws kids or my nephew and niece the same…Punahou and then private colleges in the mainland. For some, going to UH for 2 years (commute from home) and then transferring to college in the mainland is a cheaper alternative.

Yah, Punahou is the rival school to mine lol. Also, I really like the approach the Hawaiian students took. Haven’t thought of doing that. Thank you
