What should I do?

Hello everyone,

I found out last week that UT rejected my application for the spring semester of next year. I had a 30 act, average gpa and was on the top 10% of graduating class. I also had good extra curriculars and fabulous essays. Is UT that selective? Granted I was an out of state student and was applying sort of as a transfer student, but isn't a 30 on the act good enough? Ut was my first choice so I am completely heartbroken.

Anyways, is there anything I can do to convince them otherwise? I know I would be a great asset to the school and was determined to get a 4.0 gpa as soon as stepped there. Is anyone familiar enough with the waitlist/ rejection proceedure to tell me if UT occasionally changes their opinion about an applicant?

Thank you.

PS. perhaps was the lack of recommendation that hindered me?

What was your GPA? Where are you coming from?

UT admissions is brutal to out of state students, with the percentage of out of state students in the university being only 5%. Also, while your 30 ACT is definitely above average for UT, they do not consider standardized test scores for transfer admissions.

From personal experience, UT admissions is a mess and you will have a hard time trying to find out the reason you were rejected. Is there any chance you can apply for fall '07, where admissions may be slightly less selective?

Thanks for your comments ohcomely.Theoretically, I am an int student although I have been attending school in the us since 6th grade. I am from out of state, new york, and was very hopeful since Ut seems to foster a diverse student body. I will actually graduate from HS this term. I was only missing a couple of credits(note that I am graduating early, not late). I took a couple of APs and several honors classes. What possibly dragged me down was the math section on the SAT(580), but I retook it in october and expect new score to be above 660. Other section were fine(650+) for UT.

I could apply for the fall but I don't want to stick around for something that isn't even certain since my scores will remain the same. Like I said, I did submit a 30 act(31 math) to compensate for the low SAT math, which obviously didn't make any difference, and was utterly satisfied with the application.

My schools does not calculate one's GPA--my academic average was 93/100.

I sent emails inquiring about the shortcomings of my application and am still waiting for a response. Will it matter if I send the new SAT score from the october test date?

Wow, sorry to hear man. I thought you were a student at UT.

Thanks for the sympathy just2fitz, I will be fine. I guess the top 10% rule for texas residents also contribute to a lower admission rate for oos students. I hope you enjoy your time there though.

I'm applying now man. It sucks. If I get into my #1 school, I wish I could give you my residency.
