Next year I'm going to a prep school and I have to take a placement test for math to see which class I should be in. I took Algebra I this year and I have B's and C's and right now I have a D+ (!). The thing is I don't think I will do well on the placement test in June and I really want to take Geometry Honors next year. Should I ask if I could take the test in August and if I don't pass then just take Algebra I again? I just really slacked in math this year and it's really boring for me and I never thought I would have to take a placement test. I think that if I really study this summer I could do well on the test.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Do whatever you can to get into geometry. If you dont do well on the June test would they make you retake Algebra? I'd go for the August test, ultimatum and all.

I don't know if they well let me take the test in August, though. I was just considering asking if I could do that.

I think that if I fail the placement test they would probably make me retake algebra. I mean, if I don't know the stuff why should I go on?

But algebra and geometry are different and I know the basics of algebra so I'm sure I could do geometry fine. Maybe I could take geometry and self study algebra again and take an exam to see if I pass it.

Firstly, how close is the June test? Talk to some people who have taken it and see how difficult it is. Do you think youd be able to pass? If not, inquire about taking it in August. Mention that you would rather pass the exam with flying colors (proving to yourself that you are capable of moving on) rather than just barely pass, which is what youd predict on the June test. If they reject this idea, try your other one about doing the placement test next year. Its really up to whether or not the school is willing to try your suggestions.

There's three tests available: June 7, 14, and 19.

I emailed the school asking them if I could take it in August so I would be able to do well.
