Ok so I have a possibility of transferring to UF for spring semester of my junior year, or I could stay at USF. I would really like to go to UF because it is an extremely prestigious school, while USF is not quite as much.

My major is premed and I ultimately want to get into a medical school. Right now I have a 3.6 gpa at USF, and I am a bit concerned.

Should I transfer to a harder school like UF and maybe not get straight A's? Or should I stay at USF and make excellent grades but graduate from a less prestigious school (tier 3 instead of tier 1)?

I am pretty certain I would get straight A's at USF the next semester (while taking organic chemistry and bio, I had an A in chemistry with the same teacher last semester).

Then again, I could do well at UF and that would look very impressive.

What should I do? Take a risk and go to UF or stay at USF?

If you can get into UF I would take that opportunity. I think it will help you in the long run. My son had surgery a while ago and one of the surgeons had graduated undergrad from UF and he is one of the best thorasic surgeons in NY.

eddy10188 I wouldn’t let something like “what grades will I make in university x opposed to university y” be the main determining factor of whether to transfer. I’d be more concern with your “fit” and academic potential. What are you using to gauge the difficulty level of course x at USF opposed to course x at UF? Are you basing it on the name of UF?

I am basing my judgement on how difficult UF will be based on its prestigue. I just assume it will be more difficult as opposed to USF, but then again i’m not sure…

Part of me wants to take the risk but the other is still concerned

eddy10188 if you would rather go to UF apply as a transfer and see what happens.

If you are worried that your grades will drop at another school instead of the one your at than you probably should reconsider med school.

As a pre-med student you should always try to challenge yourself more.
