Ok, I've been deferred from UMich and I'm not sure what I can do to help myself get in. I know that talking to the counselor will sometimes help but I'm not sure how to. Also based on my stats what do you guys think is the reason I was deferred?
gpa: 3.64
ACT: 32
SAT II: 740 Chemistry, 740 US History
AP: Chemistry 4, US History 4, English 4
Senior courses: Economics, AP Physics, Calc BC, AP Gov, AP English 12
Essays: Great
Teacher Rec: Good
Counselor Rec: Great
Extracurricular: Food Kitchen, Track, Tutor, Piano, Leader of local community help group

What seems to be the problem here and what should I do next? Sending in 7th semester grades would not help because I got an A, B, B-, A, B+ (with respect to the order of the courses listed earlier) and the gpa of that is 3.6 which would represent a dip in grades since I have a positive grade trend and had a 3.90 2nd semester junior year. Thanks.

well, depending on how much you want to get in, there’s a couple other things you might want to do. first thing: have your high school counselor call the admissions office to explain why you should get in. second thing: send an impassioned letter to the admissions office saying it’s your dream, etc, etc. third thing: go to the teachers who are giving you Bs and have very frank discussions with them, asking if there’s ANYTHING you can do to get your grades up, your future’s riding on it. fourth: contact the university and see if you could possibly get in for summer term or the comprehensive studies program.

good luck I was deferred last year, and my high school counselor called the admissions office & convinced them to accept me. depending on how strong your school’s relationship is with u of m, I hope that helps.

kp-Well my school does send about 60 students to UMich every year so I’m guessing that there is a good relationship. Maybe I’ll try that. I can’t convince my teachers to give me better grades since they’re AP classes and these teachers don’t give As for tissue EC. And the other options sound good. I think I’ll try all of those. Thanks.
