He guys, I took the ACT on the 12 and i know i did well however i messed up on the essay and in one of my paragraphs i went on a tangent and just drifted away from there. Ill probably get a 6 if not lower on this essay but im almost positive, since i did well on the other sections that ill have a 32+ composite. This is my 3rd act, should i retake it if i plan on applying to ivies?
P.S. last ACT i got an 8 on the essay.

If you plan on applying to Ivies you should have AT LEAST a 33 or so unless you’re an athlete/URM. What did you get on your last ACT? Also, if you keep struggling with the essay just take the non-writing ACT because you only need to take the writing one once

I think it would be best for you to see what you made on the ACT first. If you did score in the mid to high thirties, I see no reason for you to take it again, unless the schools you are applying to have score choice and you’re positive that you can get a higher score.

Also, I do not think that colleges seriously weigh the writing portion of the ACT- they can, after all, surmise how well you write by the essays you submit to them. And you never know, you could have done better on the essay section than you think: the readers only skim, so he or she may not have even noticed that you went off on a tangent. Best of luck :)
