what should i do?

I got my TAG approved from Davis a few days ago in psychology with a 3.07 GPA. However, I am eligible to petition for academic renewal after this semester for a pre-cal class I took my first semester of CC and received a D in. Although I have a TAG with Davis, I am leaning towards going to SB to major in biopsychology. I did the calculations, and my GPA raises to 3.27 if I decide to petition for academic renewal for the pre-cal class.

Does academic renewal take away my whole first semester at CC? Because if I do petition for it and this is so, my cultural anthropology class, which is a requirement for admission to the psych major at Davis, will also be taken away. Will this mess up my TAG or could I just take a sociology class, which can be taken instead of cultural anthropology for admission, in the spring?

Academic renewal wipes out EVERYTHING for the semester; otherwise everyone would be doing academic renewal for a specific class. Double edge sword.

^^ Yup

10char

Thanks for the input! Admission for the psych major at Davis requires a cultural anthropology OR sociology class. Academic renewal would wipe out my cultural anthropology class and pre-cal class, but I just realized that I also took English 101 my first semester and it would wipe that out too. No way I can do academic renewal now. So, I guess I’m stuck with that D.

Re-taking Pre-cal pretty much does the same thing, but will not wipe your other classes.

@macdreezy: You don’t have to do academic renewal in order to wipe out the D. Just retake the class. UC’s have “academic forgiveness” so if you get below a C, just retake it and the new grade (assuming it’s a C or higher) will be counted.

Granted, you might be too late to have this count toward your transfer GPA since spring grades won’t factor into the decision.

spring grades does count? what happened if i take class in this winter intersession which is starting jan 4 to jan 26. does the grade go to spring or fall semester?

@dungnuyen: Yes and no. Your spring classes won’t be done until around June, whereas your admission decision will be made around March/April. This being the case, the last grades to factor into your decision as to whether or not you’re admitted will be your fall grades. Your spring grades will have no bearing on whether or not you’ll be accepted.

After you’re accepted, you’ll be send a “conditional offer of admission” which requires that you maintain a certain GPA through the rest of your spring/summer classes. With UCI, this was a 2.8, with UCSD I believe it’s a 3.0 and it varies for the other UCs. You’re required to maintain that overall GPA and not get below a 2.0 in any class.

But no, your spring grades won’t count toward your admission decision.

As for intersession classes, you’ll need to check with your CC since this differs. Some apply it toward the spring semester whereas others apply it toward the fall (as mine does.)

thanks can u reply to my question about winter intersession class too? the grade count toward spring or fall semester? my class start jan 4, 2011 to jan, 26 2011

@dungnguyen: Sorry, I did respond to that but for some reason it didn’t want to save my edit.

You’ll need to contact your CC about winter intersession. Some CCs count those classes toward your spring semester while others count it toward your fall semester. My CC counts them toward fall, but it differs. Check with them :)
