What should I expect?

Rather, should I simply be awaiting my rejection or should I have some glimmer of hope for acceptance? Princeton is without a doubt my dream school, so I'd like some feedback as to what you guys think.

You seem to be a reasonably quantitative person, so you should be able to figure out for yourself that the expectation you should have is rejection, just based on acceptance rates. Numbers don’t really lie - I’m sure you know that.

Besides, who was the last person that expected to get into Princeton that was simultaneously clearly worried about it?

Fair enough. I guess my question should be rephrased. Rather than asking if I should “expect” a decision either way, I would like to know if I am competetive for admission. Is it 100 percent certain I will be receiving a rejection, or is there a chance, despite my below average SAT’s and such, that I will be accepted?

You are not a certain reject.

Thank you sherpa. Guess I’m just trying to calm my nerves; I have back-up plans and such but Princeton is sitting way above any other school on my list.

You have a rational outlook. Good luck.

Thank you. Much appreciated.

Anyone else?

You are a certain reject.

Ok, thanks.

You certainly have at least an average chance…which is unfortunately still under 10%…although I think your overall outlook may be a slightly higher than average based on your stats/ECs/sports…just my 2 cents.

Slightly higher test scores would help perhaps, but the fact that you have a low income will help.

Not a certain reject that is for sure.

Thank you. Do strong AP performances and relatively strong SAT II scores help to outweight my slightly low SAT’s?

Possibly. Don’t over think this. You’ll be accepted or not. Try to relax.

Your stats certainly will get you considered. They are really very good. I suspect SAT scores are far less important than people wish they were. Yours are perfectly good enough for them to not turf you out of the possibility pile on first vetting. Write an essay that shows who you really are. Di sicuro un saggio buono male non fa.

Grazie, eurekanow! I believe that my essay is pretty good but we shall see in April I guess (:

you probably have a good chance but make sure to convey in your essays what makes you unique. keep in mind that there are more than 20,000 other students applying that have similar or better stats than you do and you have to make sure that you distinguish yourselves from among them. i got slightly lower scores, but i wrote about my unique experiences. i believe one of my essays was about my relationship with my nephew. i didn’t think i would get in because of my scores, but don’t worry about yours.

Thank you, I definitely believe that each of my essays reveal different aspects about who I am and what I value. Hopefully that will be enough for the admissions officers!

depends whether or not you’re an URM or have some other hook like that

Wouldn’t say I have any hook beyond being first generation. I’m a white male from Maryland. Nothing unique about that.
