I have a 34 on my ACT, 3.7 GPA, and I’m applying to schools way out of my reach like MIT and Stanford. My extra curricular’s are the only super strong point of my application. My strongest extra curricular is running. My most impressive run so far is a 75 mile run. Should I focus my weekends on trying to break a record I’ve been training for? (youngest person to run over 100 miles). Or, should i spend the last few weekends I have before submission time studying my SAT Subject tests to improve my score? If I went that route, I could always do the run around December or February (assuming I complete it successfully), and email the colleges asking them to add it to my record, but it might not mean as much then. What do you guys think I should do? Basically, which one would give me the better chance at these super reach schools or any others I’m applying to? Great SAT Subject tests scores, or a world record?
Dang dude hats off for the 75 mile run. Didn’t you say on another post that you already had the record for running 112 miles? I wouldn’t retake SAT Subject Tests, since it wouldn’t look too favorable; although if you want to take tests for a new subject, I would say to pursue that.
Btw, I’m a long distance runner too and am running my first marathon this January. The thought of a 100m run is insane. What’s your average week training?
Run because that’s your passion
Aye, feel free to message me with any question! As for the contradiction in posts, I have not actually done it yet, I just worded it that way because on here, the shorter the post the more likely people are to respond haha. I already knew I was going to do it eventually, and wanted to know how helpful it would be. I admit it wasn’t totally the right thing to do though haha, just easier. As for the weekly training, I have increased it every year, but for training I’ve been doing 90mi a week
Haha wow. I don’t run anywhere near that level.
I looked on Google and there’s a guy (13 or 15 years) who completed a 100mi. Idk the validity of that though.
How are your 5k times? You’d laugh if you heard mine. Since cross country season is over, I’m planning to go ham this year on running to improve drastically next season (I’m still a junior xD).
I’m going to message you now!
HA! The reason I do long runs is because I suck at sprinting! Sure I can shuffle for a while, but I can’t for the life of me speed up haha. And ya, thats why I would have do just go for the youngest to go over 100 mi achievement, as I’m way late for the youngest 100mi record haha. As of now, the youngest person to run over 100 miles is a 19 year old with 130 miles.
