Desktop

1) Cheaper
2) More space for your buck
3) Powerful

Dorming far away from home, Laptop
At home, desktop.

I think that's sort of obvious...

Desktop unless you know you want a laptop

if you have to ask the question, it probobly wont matter which you get and if it doesnt matter, you might as well get a desktop because it is more durable, cheaper, and better.

If your campus has wireless Internet, a laptop is very useful and would probably be worth the added expense and possiblity for theft.

If not, a desktop is the more powerful and more affordable option.

I've been going through the same laptop vs. desktop deliberation process and my dad wants me to get a desktop b/c extended use of a laptop is supposedly terrible for your back and neck.

There are ways to use a laptop that don't hurt back and neck....sure, if you us it in your lap all the time there maybe problems. But you can angle the laptop. But you are younger than your dad, so you won;t have those back pains, right? Be sure and tell him that and then duck!!

Buy an elevated lap desk. You place a mat on your lap and you can adjust the level of the laptop so it can be up to your chest. I'm sure you could find one in any circuit city or best buy.

Laptop ergonomics are terrible. The screen is always going to be in the wrong place in relation to the keyboard (so you will need to dock it on a desk with external components anyways). The touchpads are generally thought of as less ergonomic than a normal mouse (the exception is the IBM trackpoints--the little red stick in the middle of the keyboad- because you do not have to leave the typing position at all to use). The heat on your lap can lower your sperm count (temporary...but still ;) )

They are not ergonomic at all but its fine for shorter periods of usage (or computing from odd positions like laying down where it doesnt matter either way) so for extended usage you should probobly get a docking station and external keyboard/mouse (you can stick witht he laptop monitor if the docking station raises it up a little higher).

Well, the reason I vouch for laptop is because its portable. That's just awesome. Of course, you don't need to be using it on your lap all the time. You should take it with you to some place with a desk or something.

But if you want to, you can get a desktop and have that bulkiness there. Its great if you're a PC gamer. Laptops are incredible bad for gaming.
