What should I look for during college Open Houses or Info Sessions?

I'm fairly new to this forum, so please move this thread if this isn't the right place...

I am an incoming junior in high school, and this summer I'm looking at Lehigh, NYU, and Fordham University (and Rutgers, as backup since it's near my NJ area)

What are some of the things I should look for besides how good its courses are for business and finance (I want to major in those fields)?

**also, cost is not an important matter to me.

Thanks!

Class sizes

thanks, anything else? also idk what that would really mean or how it’d affect me…

-Student:Faculty ratio
-Influence of Greek Life
-Research and Internship Opportunities
-Religious and Cultural Groups
-What are Gen. Ed requirements?
-Accessibility of Professors
-Cleanliness of Campus
-Campus Security
-School Spirit
-Availability of Public Transport

And that’s all I can think of right now.

check the bathrooms on campus , make sure they are modern and clean!
joking aside it can tell you a lot about the school!

p.s. hopefully, there are also a lot of them

Look at the attitude of the student body. Do they seem happy? Do they seem to just want to get to the next class-head down, ignoring others)? Are they polite? Are they rude? Are they talking/walking/working in groups or are they all solo?

Sure it’s just a snapshot, but D decided against a school because everyone seemed unhappy and chose one because the kids were far more social. Younger D is a few years away yet but we visited one on a vacation and were blown away by how polite and helpful everyone was. That left a very positive impression.

You should get any important factual information about majors offered, class size, types of classes offered, dorms etc. that you didn’t already get from the school website or guide books etc. (your visit will be much more productive if you do a little research before you go). It is important to look around and try to get the vibe of the school. Do you think you can be friends with the kids you see walking around campus? Is the campus/environment what you wanted? (ex. even though NYU and Fordham are in NYC, they are very different…NYU is in the village and has no distinct campus while Fordham is in the Bronx and has a gated traditional campus…my son loved one school and didn’t even apply to the other…but that was his personal preference and two people can reasonably have two different reactions to the schools). Ask your tour guide questions about what people do on weekends etc. Try to picture yourself as a student there.

Thanks everyone! Bump
