I know it seems like geology/geoscience is the obvious answer, I’m just wondering if I should just do my undergrad in say, Biochemistry and focus more on geology when I get my PhD. I’m interested in research relating to biogeochemistry, so I’m just not sure what my best path would be. I want to have a good shot at grad school and I feel like chemistry is just a more foundational major. Is this crazy? Any advice? Thanks
If you want to take a risk with your GPA Petro.E is another good major. Otherwise I think Chemistry would be a good fit for you if you can keep up your GPA.
Why? If you want to get a PhD in geology or geoscience, your best undergrad major would be geology or geoscience. If your college doesn’t have it then major in chemistry with significant biology coursework would be a good idea.
I would say that if you wanted to be a little more general, Earth Science would also work. I think it would be a valid idea to minor in chemistry or something like that to complement geology, but majoring in what you want to go into will give you the best base of knowledge and help you make sure that you do want to go into it at a deeper level.
