What should I major in if I want to work in IT/Computer Networking? Heilp please!

Hi,

I am currently a 2nd year in college and have not yet declared a major yet. I'm currently working in IT (information technology) right now and would like to get a job working in either IT or computer networking. However... there doesn't seem to be a major for this field at any of the UC's! I know this major falls under "information systems" which I believe only a few CSU's have in their program.

I've talked to a few employees and I've gotten different advice. Those that went to college didn't necessarily have a degree in the field they are working in now. I was a Computer Engineering major for about a year but decided to switch out because I couldn't handle the workload. I do want to pursue a career in Computer Networking and since technically... a degree is not really required... could anyone give me a few tips on what I should do?

I have an appointment scheduled with my academic adviser and I'll ask him too.

The way I see it, because my desired career field cares more about how many certifications you have.. I was wondering if I should just go with a business major. That way if my field doesn't work out I still have a fall back degree. Is that doomed to fail?

If anyone could give me some advice I would really appreciate it! :)

PS: I am currently have a CC atm and need to decide my major if I want to transfer out of here :(

probably just Computer Science major? I don’t know

Im also a IT major. However, I am not quite sure how your university works but the way Syracuse University works is that if you are a major of IT, you can choose which concentration to focus on… From Info Security to Networking. So I am able to major in IT as well as focusing on networking…

CIS or MIS
