I’m a junior in high school. I know I have some time to figure it out, but I honestly don’t know what I should major in.
My first thought was astrophysics or something similar cause I’ve always loved space and stars and the universe, but after taking physics classes I don’t know 1. how good I am at physics and 2. how much I actually like it. Next I thought neuroscience or cognitive science cause I’m really interested in consciousness and how the animate aspect of the mind can come about from inanimate matter. But I feel like neuroscience is so primitive and isn’t gonna offer what I’m looking for. So computer science seemed like another option since the topic of super intelligence has a lot to do with consciousness and intelligence and is advancing a lot faster than neuroscience. I’m also a very logical person who likes math so I could see myself liking majoring in comp sci. I’ve also always had pre med in the back of my mind but I’m afraid if I chose that it might be not cause I actually want to be a doctor but cause it’s a default STEM path. And also AI might take over medicine so job security seems a little iffy.
I don’t really care about money that much I just want a career path that’s gonna offer me some meaning and stimulate my mind a lot. And is always changing. I hate the idea of routine for something so central in my life. It just sounds so boring. Any insights would be helpful and much appreciated!
