what should i major in?

so i will be a senior next year and im still not sure what i want my major to be
i was thinking civil engineering but i also like chemistry (next year im taking ap chem) i also like math
i want to major in something that will alow me to travel
does anyone have any ideas?

I’m not an engineer, but I’ll take a shot in the dark since no one else replied yet—

Certain areas of environmental engineering might combine your interests in civil engineering and chemistry. Environmental engineering is often a subfield in civil engineering depts., or sometimes, a stand-alone dept.

As for travel…is your interest to study abroad while you’re in school or to travel as part of a professional career?

If you major in sciences or engineering, it might be difficult to study abroad and still meet the requirements for your major, depending on which university you attend. However, I believe there are study abroad programs that will accommodate those requirements. Do an internet search on engineering or science + study abroad. You also could travel or study abroad in a summer program.

You also might consider a major in one of the earth sciences or earth sciences + engineering areas. This might accommodate your interest in chemistry as well as some travel (via field work) to various regions of natural/geological interest. (or possibly, energy engineering, too.) Not sure if that’s the sort of travel you had in mind.

Of course, math comes into play in any science or engineering field.

Try researching any engineering majors are prospective colleges that you are planning to apply in to get a feel as to the course load and curriculum. Maybe that will give you an idea as to what type of engineering you would be interested in.
But here are some ideas:
If you do like chemistry, major in it directly. You will need to take some higher up math courses so you will be using math.
You can also try majoring in math and see if you like it. Again look at the curriculum for math majors are various colleges to see if it sparks an interest.
Engineering-wise chemical engineering is a good choice since you seem to like chemistry.
If you do think about civil, I don’t think you would be using too much chemistry other than the basic general chem series course.
Material Science and Engineering is also a good choice for you since you incorporate math and chem in that major as well.
Research a bit more and find what you like and what you think will suit you.

An engineering job that will allow to travel will depend more on the job than the field. Some civil engineers will travel a lot and some won’t. Same for other disciplines.

Chemical engineering is very math intensive, but actually involves surprisingly little chemistry. Most of what I’ve learned in my chem eng degree I’d file under mathematical physics or math. I’d say if you’re really interested in chemistry you should major in science.
