What should I say my possible major is?

I really thought when I first worked on my app that I would be a linguistics major. But I have a strong background in many areas. As a result, I do have a long list of interests. I do volunteer work teaching science to kids during the summers. I am in all the honor societies (math, French, NHS, English, and science) that are offered at my school. I am mostly involved in the French honor society and taking French 5, which is more of an independent study in French and Linguistics.

BUT, when I sat in on classes, I had the chance to stay 2 days and sit in on multiple classes. I LOVED the upper level science classes I sat in on, and was completely bored by the large linguistics classes I sat in on. I also loved the French class I got to attend. The teacher even offered me her email address.

My essay already says Linguistics, I have to re-write it anyway I guess. I do not know if I should just let it be. Or if I should re-write it and suggest one of the other majors I am interested in. I have also been told that the humanities might be the way to go when listing a major, because they are less popular. On the other hand, my math scores are clearly better on testing. In other words, I do not know what I will major in! It is narrowed down to about a quarter of what Rice has to offer.

What would be the best route to go? I really love Rice and do not want to mess this part up.

It’s ok to be “undecided”. You could indicate what you’ve written above. That’s one of the things that is so awesome about Rice is that you can take a lot of things and explore your interests. As well you can major and minor or you can double major. So the possibilities are “endless”.

By choosing a less popular major you could run the risk that a school might not think you are a good match for them.

Undecided is fine, many people here change their majors 3,4,5,6 times.
