I'm a senior, you know the drill.

2.42 GPA (higher so far senior year, right around 3.0)
1870 SAT (600 Reading, 630 Math, 640 Writing)
30 ACT

My GPA kills me, I know. But is a decent school out of the question? I was thinking Central Michigan, but are my standardized test scores good enough for me to think of anything better?

Just let me know what I should be thinking about. I've already applied to a few, but anything you guys can tell me would help.

Well, it's just a bit late to be applying now....

But there's a list around here that lists late, rolling schools.

College Search - Central Michigan University - CMU - At a Glance

By the way, College Board is your friend :)

And yes, your GPA will take you out of the running for many good schools.

As I said, I have applied to schools such as Central, Oakland University, and Oakland Community College, I was just wondering if my ACT and SAT scores would open up any better opportunities for me that I'm not considering because of my poor GPA.

your gpa hurts you a lot in this situation...right now I think your best bet will be to go to a community college for a year or two, work hard to get a solid gpa, then transfer to a 4 year university closer to your obvious potential based on your act/sat scores. best of luck!

Some schools have a minimum cut-off of 2.5 GPA. Any chance that yours will be there by the end of senior year?

There are definitely non-CC schools that will take you. I don't know enough about Central or Oakland to make direct comparisons, but I can think of at least one respectable LAC that has rolling admissions through August and would almost certainly take you with a 2.5. One of my closest friends (incredibly bright and driven, NMF, competitive athlete, etc.) attended, loved it, and is now pursuing a funded PhD. The school I'm thinking of is pretty religious, which may not be what you're looking for.

As dncrgrl said, your best bet, if you're willing, is probably to head to CC, do well, and transfer. It's by no means your only option, but it may be the best answer to your question. Check out the recent front-page thread re: transfer students' success stories. Lots of posters whose HS profiles read similarly to yours...might be helpful to see the paths they took.
