What should I write my college essay about?

Any suggestions for a unique college essay?

Should I write about some tragic family event or something that is totally unique? or perhaps about specific volunteer work I did? Would writing about my love of geography be too strange?

What did you write about and where did you get accepted to?

If you think it’s strange then you’re headed in the right direction. At one point during my senior year, I even considered writing about my fascination with my own toe nails. Weird, I know.

I’m currently attending Boston College.

Figure out the story you want to tell; we can’t tell you what that is because we don’t know you. After you know what you want to say, try your best to communicate it.

Write about whatever gives the person reading your application novel and/or deepened insight into you as a person. This often means writing about something that doesn’t fit elsewhere, but not always. For example, I wrote about the role of Spanish in my life but also listed Spanish tutoring as an EC (I’m currently a Senior).

It’s not the topic; it’s what you do with the topic.

Choose whatever topic allows for the most personal, detailed and revealing essay. The essay that, ideally, only you could write.
