I’m a senior in high school at the moment, and here are my stats:

I’ll help you
Reach:
HYPSM (take your pick of one of them)
Johns Hopkins
One of the top tier UCs or USC
Match:
Georgia Tech
UVa
Duke
UMich
Safety:
Your local state school if it has good engineering
I have to disagree a little with the match. Doesn’t UMich look at unweighted? I wish my weighted was unweighted in that case.
Oh I missed that. Yeah put UMich on reach. And Georgia Tech on high match.
What can you and your parents afford to spend each year? Are you looking for merit aid? Home State?
Home State: PA
Merit Aid: Yes, but it’s not really a factor in my list making.
Affordability: Still in the process of calculating EFC, but last time I checked, I believed it was somewhere near 21000.
The California UC’s do not give any FA for OOS students, so expect to pay $55K/year. I would not include them on the list. USC is worth an application and look at Harvey Mudd, one of the Claremont Colleges (private).
@Studious99 Could you give me an idea of what my list should look like with that update?
Re @Studious99 's list:
The reality is Michigan, UVa, Duke all reaches. UVa admits few OOS students, making it extra difficult to get in. Also Michigan and UVa less likely to give much aid to OOS students. Same for the UCs so forget those. I’d focus on privates that can offer some aid, or State colleges that try to attract OOS students (like Alabama)
Forget HYPSM - you won’t get in and you’d be wasting your time.
Some suggestions:
Reach: Duke, Rice, Cornell, JHU, CMU
- Rice in particular provides good finaid, so you should apply there; excellent engineering
- Check out the molecular engineering program at UChicago (a new program) - if that looks like your cup of tea, it’s another reach option
Match: GTech, RPI, Case Western
- as a girl you have a good chance at merit aid from RPI
Safety: Penn State, Alabama
Any preferences for location, size?
