Thanks for the help!

well, you can look up the SAT scores for W&M. The middle 50% is 1240-1450. So, you should probably aim for 1300+ and as you said, the higher the better.

^Agreed.

And if you decide to try the ACT too, aim for a 30+.

My score was a 32 when I got in.

Their middle 50% for the ACT is 27-32.

The middle 50% range for enrolling students last year was 127-1420 (Critical Reading + Math) and 27-32 for the ACT. W&M only considers the best score so if you take the SAT multiple times we only review the best critical reading and the best math. If you take both exams W&M considers only whichever composite score is the highest. We always recommend students take one exam twice or try each exam once unless they hit it out of the park on the first attempt.

But don’t you need to have higher scores if you’re out-of-state?

Not technically. However, there are generally more out of state applicants fighting for fewer spots, so…

Yea, I guess what I meant to say was: Isn’t the middle 50% higher for out-of-state applicants?

probably slightly, I would guess 20-40 points higher… I don’t have any numbers for it though.

My OOS daughter got in for next fall with a 1440 SAT and a 32 ACT.

Hope that helps someone!

oh yeah-I want to jump in on this. I’m a freshman at Cornell and hate it-I really don’t understand why everyone’s so surprised we’ve had three suicides this month.

anyhow, I want to transfer to W&M, but I’m from Vermont.

Here are my SATs:

700-CR
780-M
720-W

Given my circumstances, (transfer + out of state), do you think those are good enough?

Thanks.

I was admitted to William and Mary this year with a scholarship for full tuition plus $3000. I am not being modest when I say, I was not a fantastic student. 3.3% of my class, 2220 SATs, 1520 on Reading and Math, but great extracurriculars. I’m from Pennsylvania. I think they really consider extracurriculars and character. Looking at your stats, I think you’ve got a great chance!

Full tuition plus $3000-damn that’s encouraging. Thanks so much. As for ECs, this is what I’ve got:
High School Extracurriculars:

Varsity Tennis
Math League-Captain
Model United Nations
Student Council- Class Officer
Scholars Bowl
National Honors Society
Boys State

Also won some awards, most notably the Rensellear scholarship for the top math/science student in the school.

I’m kind of hoping that the fact that Cornell gave me a research scholarship-only 2% of kids get this-will catch their eye.

If you have completed your first year at Cornell, those grades are what is considered.

Your EC’s look pretty good, but not necessarily great. It looks lke you have a lot of scholarly EC’s, but I think they like more diverse ones, but I am not sure. All stats considered, I would say you have a really great shot!!
