<p>Hello</p>

<p>My s was admitted (EvirE) and ee are planning a trip to visit this month. Any suggestions, on things we should see and do while there ?</p>

<p>Questions we should ask students ?</p>

<p>Any assiatance would be greatly appreciate.</p>

<p>Thanks so much.</p>

<p>Has he submitted his housing preferences? If not, tour the dorms and come up with 2 or 3 selections asap. There is a lot of good information about them on this forum.</p>

<p>Try to visit during the [Open</a> House - Student Life & Leadership - Cal Poly](<a href=“http://www.studentlife.calpoly.edu/ori/openhouse/]Open”>http://www.studentlife.calpoly.edu/ori/openhouse/) on the 16 > 17th. You will not only tour the campus but you will get to drill into the Environ Engin dept.</p>

<p>Are you looking for things to do around town or just on campus?</p>

<p>Both around town and on campus - anything you would think would be interesting or informative.</p>

<p>thanks so much !</p>

<p>Well first congrats to you son on being admitted EvirE!!<br>
Around town you could eat at one of the restaurants on the other thread. At Novo you can eat outside by the creek. At Firestone you will see a lot of students. Check out the Mission. Try to be here on a Thursday as they close Higuera street down and there is a great Farmer’s Market! Oh and Bubble Gum Alley. Check out a movie at the historic old Fremont. Or go to the drive in (not many of those left). If you like the outdoors you could hike up Bishop’s Peak and get a bird’s eye view of the area. There is also great hiking at Monano de Oro but that is about a 15 minute drive from Poly. If you are a runner ask someone on campus about the trails/loops in Poly Canyon. It’s a great run and you’ll see some of the acreage that the school owns. Or drive to one of the local beaches. They are about 10 minutes away. Pismo and Morro Rock are popular for surfers. Avila is smaller and generally has nicer weather. Further down the road from Avila is Port San Luis. Here you can get fresh locally caught seafood or at the end of the pier eat at the Old Port Inn where the tabletops are glass so you see the ocean beneath you. Or drive ON the beach at Oceano Dunes next to Pismo. There are a lot of tasting rooms and a beautiful vineyard out in Edna Valley. Edna, Saucelito and Baileyana all look out over the vineyard.
Anyway enjoy your trip. It’s a great town and great place to go to school!!</p>

<p>On campus, make sure to tour the engineering labs particularly, “Mission Control” where students track the satellites they put into orbit on Russian missiles. Very cool regardless of your son’s major. Great example of the “learn by doing” philosophy of Cal Poly.
You can learn about and sign up for all kinds of campus tours here: [Visit</a> Cal Poly - Admissions - Cal Poly](<a href=“http://www.ess.calpoly.edu/_admiss/visit/index.html]Visit”>http://www.ess.calpoly.edu/_admiss/visit/index.html)</p>

<p>And I 2nd the congratulations to your son.</p>
