What should Tulane kids do now?

it seems reasonable to expect that Tulane could relocate to another site until New Orleans is rebuilt, which may be another 1-2 years. That way, they could recall the faculty and students and staff, and try to keep it together. Maybe to one of those closed Army bases somewhere, or a college that is in trouble financially and has the space.

Otherwise, they need to soon decide whether it will be realistic to allow students to come back to New Orleans in the foreseeable future, and I doubt it will be this academic year. They can't come back to an island called Tulane, in the midst of a city that is in ruins, and New Orleans will take a long time to rebuild.

Anyway, if I were president of Tulane, I would move off-site for next year, and announce all decisions soon including about the Winter/Spring semester to give everyone involved direction. If there is any doubt, cancel the next semester now. That way, students and parents can work things out with the places the students have landed per financial arrangements, esp for the students counting on financial aid and grants.

The other New Orleans institutions also need to make similar decisions, but Tulane is a bit different because of its extensive graduate programs and hospital affiliations.
