My S is a sophomore in high school. He has tons of courses this year. I think he is going to be sick. What would you do if you are sick? How would you go about the home works...? Would you try to go back to school as soon as possible even you are not feel good? Thank you for advise.

As another sophomore, I attend school anyway when I'm sick - too many AP classes to do otherwise. However, that's not generally a good idea and you run the risk of making the illness worse, so the best thing for your son to do would probably be to get to school early the day he gets back. That way he can talk to teachers without interruptions to see what he missed, get homework for the day before, make up tests or quizzes if necessary, etc.
Whether or not to go to school depends on the extent of the illness. If he's just sneezing it would probably be better to go. If there's a high fever or something worse, staying home would probably be better. Run with your best judgment :)

My kids stayed home when they were sick - for a few days at least, until they were sure they were no longer contagious.
They would call a classmate when they were well enough and get the homework for each day for every class and try to keep up as best they could. Usually the teachers would give them a day or so to turn in any work that they missed, but each school has their own policy about work missed while absent, so you should check with your high school.
It's really not a good idea to go to school sick. It keeps you from getting well quickly, and it spread the illness to other classmates.

My junior year of high school I came down with mono. I didn't realize it for 10 weeks. It is terrible to go to school when you are sick. I was absolutely miserable. You should contact the school and ask them about arrangements. Generally they will be very accomodating about late work, work from home, etc.

When I am sick, I generally stay home because I dont want to get worse and have to miss more than I have to.

im a junior: when im sick, i go to classes that are hard to catch up on, such as english and biology (lots of information given in each period) and i also attend classes that are starting a new topic.

If there's only a 1 hr interval between my 2 have-to-go classes, i go to the beach to get some fresh air. If the interval is more than 2 hrs, i go home and fill up on more medication, and catch up on a nap or osmething.

wow, you are allowed to just leave school randomly? ::is jealous::

Yeah, if I feel myself coming down sick, I bring home the texts that are important and try to do a little studying when I'm hooked up on a ton of medication. Although, I also know that doesn't always work - its harder to retain information. The best thing to do is let your kids stay home until they are no longer contagious/no fever and make arrangements with the teachers for missed work. If your kids don't miss school much and are relatively good students, the teachers are more than willing to accomodate.

I always put health over everything else

My mom would make me go to school, but if I actually had the choice I would probably stay home if I was very sick. I'd also try to get someone (a friend or teacher) to send or e-mail the work to me.

if i go to school sick...i end up spacing out, falling asleep faster, and not taking in any information anyways b/c i feel so crappy. so i'd rather just stay at home and get better rather than not being productive and getting worse in school...

Attend school unless I am too sick to concentrate, but this has not happened for over 5 years.

If I have a little cold, I still go to school, but if I feel like I'm seriously gonna die I stay home. After school is over, I'd call up friends to find out what I miss and get homework assignments if I can do them (reading, essays, ect).

nope. We have to sign out/in. But our school is against people coming to school sick so my reasons for signing out is some phoney answer like 'doctors appointment' 'physiotherapy appt' 'piano exam' , etc..
my parents are cool with it so yeah..

What I learned, is that as long as the sickness isn't serious, you should go to school anyway, getting behind is the last thing I want. But I also remember to get lots and lots of sleep, and slack off as much as possbible until I'm feeling better. : )

I hate when kids go to school sick. I have a bad immune system and always catch at least a part of their illness.

Talk you your son's teacher and counselor ASAP to get their recomendation on a course of action. Sick people should not attend school if they don't have to as it jeapordizes their health as well as others around them.

I was sick a lot this year. First I had pneumonia, which I didnt know I had until a week after I got it. I was out for two weeks, and just had someone tell me what the homework was. I ended up getting better on a Sunday, I tried to do hw on that saturday, but I thought every problem was impossible. One day doing homework and reading a few chapters in every class and I was back on schredule. It worked out fine, you really dont miss that much, especially if its taught from the book. I ended up getting high grades on all the tests I made up. The second time, I had strep throat maybe, but I just had high fever for 4 days before my throat started hurting. I did the same thing and was fine. That was 4 days of school missed. If you are going to be seriously sick, ie fever of 103+, or no energy, or being horsed, do not go to school. It isnt worth it, just stay home. The school even recommends it.
