My counselor asked for 6X9 envelopes.

But most of my friends are using 9X12 for teacher recs.

What size envelopes did you guys use?

Is this what Ivy League aspirations do to people?

...In any case I'm using 9x12 too...

I used the regular white letter envelopes

I think you're overanalyzing the situation.

My kids used regular business size envelopes -- 4 1/8 x 9 1/2.

9x12 manila is good

6X9 is good, except for Stanford which requires 9x12.

Columbia requires 9x12 too but they don't specifically say it. They say to not fold forms, so... 9x12 envelopes.

Oh, good. I was going to make a separate thread, but this works. Question is as follows:

Am I right in thinking Stanford wants three 9x12 manila envelopes, one for one rec, one for the other, and the third for the counselor forms?

That is correct.

i find that 9x12 satisfies most colleges. most do not like or specifically do not WANT your forms to be folded so 9x12 allows the papers to be put in the envelope easily.

well they can go F themselves. I bought lots of 6X9 and i'm gonna use them, except for stanford which specifically asked for 9X12.

I bought 9x12, strip & seal envelopes as this is what the HS counselor wants. They're somewhat heavyweight. I took them to the post office to be weighed and here's what I found:

For the envelope plus 1 or 2 sheets of paper, I'd need a $1 stamp.

For the envelope plus 3+ sheets of paper, I'd need $1.17 in postage.

I was just going to put 2 42-cent stamps on, so I'm glad I weighed them.
