I'm an incoming freshman, and I'm looking to buy one or two USB flash drives. I never used them in high school, but I'd really like to start. I'm undeclared but looking to major in International Affairs, so I'm thinking I'll just have Word documents to store on them (potentially some PowerPoints?).

Anything else that I might want to use them for?

What size should I get? Should I get two with different sizes?

I already have a whole external hard drive for my iTunes library.

It doesn’t really matter. Word documents and power points won’t take much space. 2GB or 4GB or whatever the cheapest you find. Shouldn’t run you more than $15.

Rarely will you need more than 2 GB on one flash drive at the same time. You can always move the contents into your computer if you need the space.

Also, if you want big files (like movies, a backup for music,…etc), external hard drives are relatively cheap, a good insurance investment, and can function as a solid (if clunky) flash drive.

There are some good cheap 2GS at target. I think they might come in packs of twos. I loose mine all of the time so I wouldn’t spend more than $20.

Wait, for external hard drives can you put info from your old comp like pics and documents, then plug it in to your new computer and transfer stuff that way?

I have an 8GB…it was the best deal. 8GB for $20 vs. 4GB for $15 and 2GB for $12. And now I never have to worry about having enough space either.

I got by with a free 512 MB flash drive I got at some promotional event or another. Honestly, you don’t need a big huge flash drive if all you’re going to be carrying around are word documents and powerpoints.

Just went to Best Buy today and picked up 4GB for 12.99, on sale this week. Colored and will close up by flipping, no cap. I usually use 2GB for work, but couldn’t pass up this sale. Advertised as Go to School in Style, or something like that.
