What so great about the six pack?

EVERYONE wants to live in the six pack and I was wondering why?

Is it all hype? Is it really fun? Is it a lot nicer than the others?

Am I really missing out by not living there?

In my opinion… nothing. The only good thing is that there are lots of people and it is close to ARC and the intramural fields. Other than that, it is way to loud and ridiculous for my taste. But to each his own. ISR is too tame, six-pack is too loud, FAR/PAR is too far. They all suck

hAH! thanks, are you a student right now? if so, what year and also do you currently live in an apartment?

How long do the students tend to stay in the dorms for? only their freshman year or up till whenever?

As to your last question, you are required to be in a dorm or private certified housing first year. Though there are some who remain in dorms all four years, more than 50% of an entering class moves elsewhere for sophomore year and another 35% of that entering class will have moved out before beginning of junior year. Only about 5% of seniors are in the dorms. Private certified housing tends to keep a much higher percentage of its residents for three to four years.

I’m with boneh3ad. One exception: for girls, I find ISR much more fun and social than for guys. Not sure why, but the girls definitely are not all engineers, no one sits around and plays video games, and there’s a really nice mix of people. In addition, girls floors have only around 50 people on them, so you get to really know everyone. But along with boneh3ad, ISR guys are a bit of another story. Plenty of nice, normal ones, but more weird guys than weird girls by far.

thanks for all the responses

Yes I am a current student, anna. I am a senior, and have been living in an apartment since sophomore year.

I definitely agree with cooljay. It is not as noticeable of a difference at ISR for girls, at least when I was there. I was a guy in ISR, and while it was very convenient, I had to TRY to find people that weren’t sitting in their rooms with the door closed playing video games on a Friday night. That said, I have a handful of VERY good “normal” friends that lived in ISR with me, so it didn’t stunt me socially, I just had to look a bit harder. The girls’ side of things seemed much more normal, and had a very healthy mix of people in it. At least from what I could tell.

Location is convenient if business student.

so is it much cheaper to live in an apartment than in the dorms? And are you still close to campus?

All freshmen must live in dorms or private certified housing anyways, so apartments are not an option.

It is cheaper to live in an apartment, but just how much all depends on where you live and how much you eat/buy on top of it. Some apartments, like Green Street Towers, would be more expensive than dorms, though. Personally, I save probably 10% versus living in the dorms. That is just a ballpark though. I live about 2 blocks from the engineering quad at 6th and Springfield and pay fairly reasonable rent for the location. It is close to my classes and close to anything I want to do at night on Green, so I like it.

well i know that freshmen must live in dorms, but im ok with that. Im really excited to live on campus but I know it might get old by sophomore year. So it is good to know all that info about the apartments. so thanks guys!
