What SSAT score should I shoot for?

crickett2324, If you read Vaizard’s original stats posting carefully, he/she is actually being consistent. It is only his/her claim about connections that kept changing.

But I dont know why my SSAT is not very good =(
Math 88%
Verbal 27%
Reading 37%

In the practice test I got
Math 95% Verbal 32% Reading 80%

Please help, I need to raise my reading.

Sorry about double post.

Dont insult me Choate applyers =)
I know my scores a really bad and I know ill probably get rejected.
I just think its worth a try… even though I have around a 1% chance of getting in…

I am applying to Choate as well as Deerfield, Andover, Exeter and Northfield Mount Hermon. My SSAT have not come in yet, but I predict that everything will be fine EXCEPT the verbal portion. Oh well. We’ll see.

I am an avid ballet dancer, and dance about 18-20 hours per week. I also play the flute and piano, and I scored in the top 10 regionally in the National French Test (have not heard about ranking nationally).

My grades are as follows:

Math (Algebra 1): A+
French II: A+
History: A
Science (Chemistry): A
English: A

I have to admit, I am not the best standardized test taker. Will this have an effect on my chance to get into these schools? ANY sort of feedback would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!!

I have two sons who have gone/are going to NMH…my eldest was in the mid 70’s for the SSAT, younger one was in the mid 80’s. I think the SSAT is truly the least important portion of the app for any school, particularly if everthing else looks good…then they can kind of tell that you are just a poor tester.

crickett…I don’t think Vaizard sounded like he was whining about his score. He was concerned about the 74% which would be undertandable in light of the fact that about 99% of the people here claim to score in the 99% percentile…it would make any kid feel inadequate. Vaizard…your score is fine.

Hey,
In my school there arnt any A+ the best a student can get is A.
A = Excellent
B = Over Standard
C = Average

PS: dont forget to look at my post above. PLEASE.

“Poor you. How can you ever get into a good school now?! Your chances are ruined! Your E.C.s are inadequate! You will be doomed to be a burger king cashier. You will never go to a good college all because you got LESS THAN PERFECT on your SSATs!”

You sound like my mom. She actually flipped out on me when she saw the scores. Thanks for the post though, I will show this to her.

Vaizard;; sighs. I didn’t mean all of that. I was asking if that is what you wanted to hear from us. When people say “theres no way I’ll be accepted” it’s as if they want to hear the opposite. I, however, tell them what they are asking for even though its a complete lie. i.e. “yes, I agree, you suck.”
Vaizard, how on earth could I predict your chances?! I, myself have only been on here for about 6 months but only active for about 3! NO ONE on here can give you ANY insight!!! I made a chances thread and then realized how bogus it was! The schools have their own special way of admitting/rejecting so even asking us is like shaking a magic 8 ball. So, sorry, wait for March 10.

I really do not want to have to wait. I wish there was some kind of way we could have a hint to whether or not we would be accepted earlier than March 10.

Sparks are flying in this heated match. Vaizard, you have good stats and if you have connections from your ?family, friends, etc?, even better. This has been said a billion times and i’m gonna cliche it now. Applying to these schools is always a bit of a crapshoot. You get accepted at one but not the other even though you feel you did just as well. The only person i know who got accepted to all the big ones was redtiger. (sorry if i got the name wrong)

hi…I’m not sure if anyone say my post, but I really would like to know if I have a chance to get into my choice schools

thanks!

Scigirl: Haha!!

ye me too,
did anyone read my post? need help! please
Any tips on the SSAT reading section???

what is so HAHA crickett???

Scigirl: We honestly have no clue whether or not you’d get in. If anyone here gives you ANY insight it should not be taken to heart. Basically, the whole admissions process is a magic 8 ball reading.

yeah I know…I just feel I need reassurance! haha

sorry for cloging up the works by writing not needed questions!

“Scigirl: We honestly have no clue whether or not you’d get in. If anyone here gives you ANY insight it should not be taken to heart. Basically, the whole admissions process is a magic 8 ball reading.”

You know, this is just not true. If someone comes and posts in a “Chances” thread, has great EC’s, scored a 99 on their SSAT’s, is an accomplished writer/poet, plays on the state team for three sports and is a tri-varsity captain as a freshman, say, applying for Lower year, comes from Brazil, or some foreign country, and is wildly wealthy, they WILL almost certainly get in, provided they didn’t bomb their interview.

You’re right, indie. crickett234 resorted to hyperbole. Allow me to amend crickett234’s statement:

Except in situations that are extreme and where the outcome is so painfully obvious that it wouldn’t merit raising the question in the first place, any advice you get here as to your chances for admission is as reliable as a tarot card reading from Ms. Cleo, and, as with said tarot card reading, should be consulted purely for entertainment purposes.

Better?

I got my scores:

Verbal: 96%
Math: 91%
Reading: 98%

TOTAL: 98%

!!!

I got:

Verbal: 90% < It was pretty hard
Math: 99% < It was so easy
Reading: 96% < It was pretty easy

Total: 97% < Overall, It was pretty easy
