Music…

Ahh…you’re from my homeland. :)

I’m from Orange County…born and raised… (lived there over 40 years)…but I live in Alabama now.

Welcome!!!

There are others from Calif here on the Bama Board, too.

Really?! I’m from the OC as well! (:
I’m in high school right now but I’m a rising senior so I’m checking out some of my options.

Can anyone give me some information about how UA’s engineering program is?

Music!

I grew up in Placentia…went to high school in Fullerton…then lived in Anaheim Hills after I got married.

I have a son in Engineering at Bama. He really likes it. I am very impressed with the engineering program… [The College of Engineering - The University of Alabama](http://eng.ua.edu/)

Bama has a Freshman Engineering Program which I think is very good. It exposes frosh to the different types of engineering…because sometimes kids think they want to be one type of engineer, and then they find out that they like another area of engineering more.
Bama has an amazingly new Science and Engineering Complex (SEC)…it is HUGE.

If you go to this link, and look at the pic, the completed buildings shown on the right, are the first two phases of the SEC. You’re only seeing a small part of those 2 buildings…that are very large and extend farther to the right. The building that is under construction is almost done now.

If you click on the links to the right…you’ll see Shelby Hall (phase I)…and the other phases.

Would you be able to visit the campus?

I’m guessing that you have the scores to get the good merit scholarship from Bama and the College of Engineering?

Unfortunately I’m extremely busy this summer and I won’t be able to visit the campus, but I believe I do qualify for the scholarships. I’ll definitely take a look! Thanks (:

My DD is recruiting for the Class of 2028. She was in a Chicago area mall and saw a 5or 6 year old with an Alabama t-shirt on. She gave her a quiet, but audible “Roll Tide.” The bewildered tot looked at her Daddy who gave her an “it’s OK” nod and gave the “Roll Tide” back to DD. The tot broke out in a huge grin. Hooked!

LOL…how funny!

You’re from Calif, right? So am I…I’m from Orange County…but now live in Alabama.

I only saw one other Marylander on here, xHollyX. Son is rising senior, we live in Pasadena, Maryland. He has applied to UA, and is getting more and more enthusiastic about it every day! Would love to meet other Maryland students to network with!

I’m pretty certain that there are other Marylanders either posting or viewing this forum.

I believe it was someone from Maryland who posted in a thread last winter that at Christmas parties there was a buzz about a good number of kids going to Bama. I know the person was from the Mid-Atlantic.

edited to add…Capemay is from Maryland.

A few others are from Maryland but now live elsewhere.

I think 3kidsinhs says that her son considers himself from Maryland, but 4 years ago they moved to Texas.

Thanks M2CK, I am sure they on here, I just have not run across them yet. I did not see that any students from my son’s school had applied to UA on Naviance, but that does not surprise me! I may start another thread to network with MD students, I would love for my son to meet a few, especially if they are in computer science/CBHP at UA.

Hey musicxlover we are from fullerton, ca and my son is going into his second year at UA. Where do you live? Maybe we can help give you some input.

Wow, Mom2, you remember everything! We lived in Westminster, Maryland for 9 years prior to moving to Texas 4 years ago. My son will be a freshman at UA in a few weeks.

*Hey musicxlover we are from fullerton, ca *

I went to high school in Fullerton. I was born in Fullerton, too…at St. Jude’s Hospital!

I’d love to have a Calif count! I think 2 years ago, Bama had about 105 Calif kids…I think that number is now higher.

Hi m2ck - I don’t know if any of the other “kids” from S h.s. are on here but I know last year we had 4 entering, 1 from the previous year, and I’ve heard there are 4 or 5 more this year. Any other SM Eagles out there? Other So. Orange County-ites?

SoCal…

you’re from South Orange Country right? Does your son’s HS start with a T? If so, I know that school has sent several kids to Bama.
