Are you taking AP Calculus and AP Physics C? Your grades and SAT (do NOT submit your subject tests as they are not required) would suggest you have a good shot. You have solid ECs. Your being an URM can only help. If you take AP Calc and Physics C, I like your chances.

@Alexandre Sadly, My school only offers Honors Calc and Honors Physics. I am taking those. My calc teacher is very good and covers everything in the AP Calc curriculum, but the class is not AP. Some days former students come in to tell her that their Calc class in college is just a repeat of what they learned with her.

Good enough thickmancollege, as long as you are taking the hardest mathematics and physics classes offered at your school, you will be fine. Besides, AP is just a name. Your honors classes may be just as challenging and advanced. Considering your academic and personal profile, I would say you have a decent chance of getting in, but the CoE is a reach, regardless.

College looks at what is available at your school and did you take the best they offer. Stats look great. It’s harder OOS to get in than in-state. That’s just the way it is. They can take the cream of the crop out of state. Last year almost 28% acceptance so it’s gonna be rough. Post on the thread EA2021 and keep us all posted if you get in! Good luck your stats look awesome.

Seacoast, the OOS acceptance rate was under 20% last year, and even lower for Engineering (under 15%).

Wow thanks! I know Mich is an awesome school - it’s my 1st choice. I did the best I could and now my EA is in. All I have to do is wait oh and my HAIL interview is this week. I am going to crush it I hope!

youll probs get in

Though it is technically not legal for UMich to give preference based on race, there is a tremendous push for the school to have a more balanced inclusive population of minorities. Being a well qualified black/Hispanic student will be attractive to them, even if they cannot technically give preference for that reason.

Michigan outreach for persons of color is mostly in-state, and is concentrated in SE Michigan and a few west Michigan cities. I met a gal from Benton Harbor who is joining Ross as a direct admit starting in January (she is forgoing her final semester of HS to start Ross in prep classes). CoE has a long standing summer program to prep incoming students in navigating and thriving at Michigan.

I think you have a good chance, especially since there is really a push to increase URM enrollment in engineering, and you have good stats.

Thanks

Let us know what happened, you should hear back in 2 weeks or so.
