i was wondering what stats were needed for OOS applicants? does UT give merit/decent aid to OOS students? thanks!

My OOS son had really good stats. He was accepted to BME, but got only a one-time, $1,000 scholarship. I know a few other OOS kids or their parents have posted that they got more.

Got in to CompSci, here’s some general stats.

SAT- M:800 W:730 R:670 T:2200

ACT: 35 composite (34 on math and 35 on everything else)

GPA: 3.5

Pretty weak ECs & awards

Also I didn’t get into my first choice major (MechE) probably due to my low GPA, but now I’m actually glad because I realized that CS is something that I would love to do even more than MechE.

Also they don’t tend to give aid (or at least decent amounts of money) to OOS students. They get the money for that from taxes paid by Texas citizens, so it’s not really fair that the money would go to a kid not from Texas. That’s why my parents are going to suck it up for the first year and pay the 40,000, and they are going to buy a condo with my roommates parents so we both get in-state tuition next year.

Merit aid depends mostly on which school you are accepted to. I don’t think that out-of-state students are treated any differently for merit scholarships at UT.
