I am a junior and I am contemplating the Dean's Scholars program, could anyone tell me the stats needed for acceptance?
Me:
16/526
3.87,5.43
All AP
I haven't taken SAT, but from PSAT 1400/1600, 1970/2400
I have also completed an independent research project every summer since seventh grade.
All trumpet, football, track, Honor societies.
Could I get in? (Oh and I am AA, does that matter)

Any accepted / current / past Dean's scholars and/or their parents willing to share their stats?

bump ...

Any Dean's scholars and/or their parents out there ?

hmm, from my past experiences, Dean's Scholar is just a little bit easier to get into than HYPS. You need to definitely show interests in the natural sciences in your EC's (science olympiad, research, etc.) It's extremely competitive since there're only about 40-50 kids that get in every year. It is the hardest honors to get into at UT, yes, even harder than business honors

I would say you have an OK chance.. being AA definitely helps and the research thing is HUGE.. but DS might frown upon your sat and rank (I've heard they barely ever look at people past top 2.5%, but I could be wrong)

I got into the UT Deanās Scholar Honors Program (much to my surprise)

Here are some of my stats

SAT 800M 700CR 710W
ACT 35Science 33Overall
SATII:
MATHII 710
Bio: 720
Phys: 670
UShist:750
Rank: 2/564
GPA: 106.313W i have no idea what it is unweighted.

um tons of extracurriculars, 5 leadership positions, 7 years swimming, 4 yrs varsity, 8 school records, 2 years captian. Ap Scholar with Distinction (5 tests with 3.5+) lotās of community service (1200 hoursā¦ donāt ask :P) 3 jobs previously

umā¦ asian, male, middle class, average public high school (magnet program)
some winnings in academic competitions, but nothign too impressive.

Congrats!!! I heard itās a great program.

congratulations! I think you will like it a lot.

Oh I end up not even applying for Deanās Scholars, but I got into Engineering Honors and got a full ride (well it costs 1K a year so it is basically a full ride) through scholarships. Yes, I am looking forward to UT!!!

Dbate, can you list your stats?

Thanks. Its no wonder your name is Dbate lol.
Iām hoping to get into the Biomedical Engineering program at UT myself.
Sorry if Iām asking this in the wrong place, but do you (or anyone else) think that I would make the cut?
Here are my stats:

Junior - In State
SAT: Math-760 CR-660 Wr-560 Combined(1420/1980) I took one mid-March, awaiting results
12th of 497 - Top 2.4% 5.39 GPA, idk about unweighted
JV Tennis 9/10th
Sophmore/Junior Rep Latin Club
130 Hours at a local non-profit hospital (another 60ish this summer)
around 30-40 hours with church

At best my class rank may bump up to 11 by summer. Iāll work on the writing score and hopefully get it to at least a 660. -and also Iām Asian if that has any effect.

I donāt mind blunt responses so please tell me where I am/need to be. Any responses are much appreciated.

frevor, I got accepted into biomedical engineering this year and I think you got a decent chance cause your stats are a bit better than mine.

GPA: 4.26/4 weighted, ~3.7/4 unweighted
Course Load: All APās/DCās junior and senior year w/ exception of spanish 3 preAP and got a 4 on the AP test in Calculus AB
Rank: 6/595 (top 1%)
SAT: 540 CR, 690 W, 740 M, 1970 total
SAT IIs: Math 2 - 790

ECs: National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Science NHS
Work: 12 hr/week
Volunteering: 112 hrs at hospital + 60-ish hours for NHS

Iām asian too :)

great, thanks henry, iād been looking for a good comparison for a while before posting.
Your rank is a good jump above mine but this is still a major relief. The people at the college prep place I attend said that I was on the fence for acceptance, and more on the wrong side than the right. You didnāt do anything too special extra-curricular that you didnāt list, right? (*nervous grin) lol

haha no worries, most of my extra curriculars only lasted 2 years at most. i suppose i left out band for one year, comp sci for two years and piano lessons and chinese school since I was 7ā¦ but you still got a pretty decent chance if you can raise your gpa and SAT. i think GPA factors in the most though.

frever you should definitely take the ACT, IMO it is much better than the SAT. And UT will convert your score so take the ACT. Biomedical engineering is the hardest to get into, when i initially applied they said that I was not auto admitted because my rank was low so I just changed to mechanical engineering. Good Luck though.

And if you wanted to know about the auto scholarships through engineering it goes like this:

SAT
1400-1440 8K over four years
1450-1490 16K over four years
1500-1540 24K over four years.

Above a 1540 I am not sure what they give, but I know someone who with a 2380 got a full ride and major in chemical engineering.

In addition the engineering school gives out several other scholarships, I got a 40K (thank you God :)) scholarship through Texas Exes for engineering. So know that engineering at UT is good for scholarship money and they donāt look at GPA only class rank.

Oh and for what it is worth I think UT values the SAT over rank and other things. For instance I know someone from my school who is just barely in the top 10% and he got into biomedical engineering but had a 1500 M+V.

I thought UT started to look at all three scores (M+CR+W) this year. Why is engineering still using only M+CR?

Before worrying about entering Deanās Scholars, make sure you reflect on why you really want to enter. If itās just because youāve always been honors, thatās probably not a good choice. Make sure you have a specific reason for wanting to get in.

For example, if youāre interested in it because of research, there are alternative programs, such as FRI [College of Natural Sciences | Freshman Research Initiative](http://cns.utexas.edu/current_students/research/freshman_research_initiative/)

Also, keep in mind that for your core classes, you are often restricted to only the honors section, which, often enough the professor is worse than the ānormalā section.

Anyhow, keep these things in mind before deciding to apply. If none of these worry you, go for it!
