what summer courses do you recommend to take in the summer for someone undeclared?

i am most likely going into some sort of science/engineering major and i will be going to warren. would classes taken over the summer at CC such as psychology and sociology be accepted in UCSD?

Yes, though look on assist.org to see how they’ll transfer. They may only count for credit, but hey, that’ll help you get into your classes if they fill up fast.

I thinkkkk you should try to enjoy your last free summer before college.

I partially disagree with ucsandiego915. I’m taking an intro chem course over the summer (at a community college, not UCSD) because my high school chem course was taught by a student teacher who didn’t do a very good job (my actual teacher was out of the picture a lot, which didn’t help). Subsequently, chemistry is something that interests me but I lack knowledge in.

I am taking the class Monday through Thursday from 8 to noon, which leaves afternoons and evenings free. Weekends are still readily available and parties on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights can and will be attainable with this less-than-rigorous course load.

I’d say to choose one class that will allow you to explore something you’re interested in, offered at a convenient time, and you’ll enjoy your summer. I would suggest a course like “Intro to Engineering” (when I took it, I realized halfway through that I do NOT want to be an engineer!) or some other intro course in a subject that you might want to select as your major.

I would take californiaxo’s advice. It doesn’t hurt to get some credit over the summer while also exploring a subject that you’re interested in but don’t quite understand. An intro class that you can just incorporate into your summer schedule sounds like a good idea.

My friend for example, was considering Cognitive Science HCI at UCSD until she took a programming class and realized she hated programming.

If you’re in-state, your CC should say if you can or cannot get credit for it at a UC in the catalog. Like someone said, you should check [Welcome to ASSIST](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST) to confirm. I imagine any general sociology or psychology course should be accepted for credit at all UCs.

I agree with ucsandiego915. Enjoy this last summer, you’ll have 3 more summers to do coursework. Plus, with all the freshman seminar courses, I’m sure you will be able to narrow down what you want to do in the science/engineering majors (a lot of them have very similar LD requirements too).

Californiaxo’s case is circumstantial. If you had really bad teachers and want to brush up on the subject that you don’t have a good foundation in go ahead and do what he/she is doing. Otherwise just relax.
