What tests will actually get you out of classes?

I know many people here take APs to put on their app that they self studied, but what tests are there that would actually allow someone to get out of basic classes?

It depends entirely on the college. Many however will give you some type of credit so that you may not be able to skip classes but you do get some advantage (like priority registration date for classes).

Especially with language, colleges typically don't award you full credit, but allow to start off with more advanced classes.

For example, a good score on either of the English APs allows Freshmen at Georgetown to skip the usual "College Writing" or something like that introductory writing class for Freshmen.

A good score on the AP European Exam at Georgetown also allows students to skip the mandatory "Survey of Western Civ" class for Freshmen, however not usually for History majors.

If the AP does not pertain to your major, then most likely you can skip introductory classes and/or receive partial credits for the test. At more state colleges, AP exams actually will give you full credit and you can get completely out of classes.

For example, at most Texas state schools, 4s and 5s on AP Calc a/b, AP Physic C, and AP chem, plus a CLEP english will basically allow you to walk into sophomore classes your first day. This opens the door to more Senior year specialization or Dual masters degrees.
