What are my chances of getting into Stanford? I know I'm a bit low on the GPA side...

Good essays will push you through the top.

Good luck.

GPA’s the only detractor I can see. I don’t really see any ECs that really stand out (idk enough about NIH to judge the prestige of your internship), but you are first-generation. I think your essays have to be really good for admission, but that’s just me.

Out of curiosity, do art classes and freshman grades count when calculating GPA? Because I got a “B” first semester in Art 1-2 due to the fact that the teacher didn’t like the style of my drawings. If it doesn’t count, it’ll actually raise my unweighted GPA to a 3.9. Also, if freshman grades don’t count, my weighted GPA should be around a 4.5.

I think with good essays you’re in. Essays at Stanford carry so much weight.

What makes you stand out?

What will make the admissions committee not go “just another academic applicant”?

Stanford could make a full class up of SAT 2300+ and GPA 3.8+ but they DON’T. And that is why numbers are becoming less and less important. What would they see beyond your academics? What can you provide that’s unique?

If you answered that question in your essays, or 150 word EC essay, you are a good match for Stanford.

–
I’m not trying to be mean, I’m just trying to play the admissions committee :P

chancing by definition is a dicey game. Are you a strong candidate? Yes? Are you assured of admission? No. Stanford routinely claims that many with SAT’s scores of 2400 and high grades (including Valedictorians) are turned away. It is just not essays, it the actually substance of your EC’s, recommendations etc. If there are too many candidates just like you then your chances are tougher as they want diversity, not everyone with math/science but some with music and arts and economics etc. in addition. There is a certain amount of randomness/subjectivity in the process.

So at this stage, know that you are strong candidate and don’t worry about small details. Your applications are in and the decision will be made soon and nothing anyone says on CC can change it.

No, art classes don’t have an impact on GPA…even if they do, I’m sure Stanford won’t hold it against you for getting a B in art.
You overall look like a pretty strong candidate and you should have as good a shot as any! Idk how close you are to admissions, but hopefully you’ll get accepted. Good luck!
