Ah. So few get this, then, correct?

Oh wow. Another thing to wonder/worry about....

yeah, tell me about it.

does anyone know how many people/ percentage of applicants they send early writes to?

Kristina, I saw your last post and had to check who wrote it... I thought maybe I had... Identical sentiments, clearly!

Here's a good thread on early writes from last year. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/amherst-college/301489-early-writes.html
They come out in early March, and I've read over and over that you shouldn't worry if you don't get one. Nice if you do, but they're relatively rare. I've heard that they are unlikely to single out one or two applicants for an early write if there are many applicants from the same school, so keep that in mind.

Also, there is a link from Business Week in a post attached to the thread Rainmama mentioned... The DoA told me that 1s are basically automatic admits, a lot of twos, a decent amount of three and some fours are admitted. So, when you read BW's account of who falls into which numerical category, don't freak out!

Well, I don't know how similar Williams admissions are to Amherst admissions, but I found this interesting article about that:
Williams admissions stuff

It talks about a girl who was a "1" who got waitlisted, because she wasn't special enough. And I could be mistaken, but I think it mentioned a few rounds of Early Writes?

Also, does anyone know if there's a formula or something available that we can use to calculate our academic rating that they use?

wow, that's a really interesting article. I didn't know it worked that way...

Grrr now I'm going to obsess about getting an early right.... super.

I highly doubt that I will though.

In all probability, none of us will. And no, I don't think there is a very good way to calculate one's rank.

Hmm I wonder what it encompasses. GPA, courseload, SAT I, SAT IIs, rank?

And it's actually not that unlikely that one of us will... I think Williams sends 200 of them (?), and if Amherst is similar, that's about half the freshman class.

Woah, check this out.

does anyone know if Bowdoin and Wesleyan send early writes?

Wesleyan does not, but, it has been known to mail acceptances to URMs a week early in order to get as many of them to Wesfest as possible. It causes a lot of consternation on their CC board every year.

So I'm "average" then....great...

^ But "average" for the class entering Amherst is pretty darn good.

aaahhh this is so harrowing!

Yeahh :(

Oh, and I wrote to Amherst admissions asking about the April 1st/April 15th discrepancy, and someone replied saying they are sent around the 1st, so you receive them by the 15th.

that table shouldn't be the only thing that matters.. holistic admission..

I'm international - Amherst will send me an e-mail, right? I just wonder if it will be on April 1 or or after the letters have all been sent...
