Will get rec including how i did all of APUSH 1st semester over winter break to get into the class. Essay will be on honor and how I gave up my friends to the police when they committed arson on a car and how hard it was to give them up but to do the right thing.

I agree with the previous poster. And safeties? They aren't crap, and you'd best find at least one about which you can provide a better attitude than 'crap'," because you may not get into Duke, etc.

Im confused and i dont understand why these colleges seem so selective. When you look at the middle 50 percent for emory and Vanderbilt their SAT scores are much lower than Duke. I dont understand why my SAT scores would have to be so high. Is it because of my average gpa? I plan to bring it up a ton next year and get straight A's in all 4 of my AP's.

Uh, you do realize that your SAT (adjusted to the old scale) is below the 25% mark for Vanderbilt, and quite a bit below the 25% mark for Emory? Not to mention the fact that your GPA isn't great

Yeah, you have a VERY low SAT for these schools and not exactly a top GPA. If you can boost both the gpa AND the SAT next year Emory ED is your best bet. Places like Duke allow for very few mistakes.

lol TTG. Might I add that i plan on straight A's next year? I made straight A's this last semester which brought my gpa up to a 3.4 actually haha.

so they'll see your first semester, and you gpa might be a 3.6 by then...is that weighted or unweighted? And the SAt is like a 1200 old sclae, which isn't close for those schools.

Im not expecting much from DUke but i really like emory although since im also applying to west point i do not want to do early decision for emory

agreed. you need to def. raise your GPA and SAT to get into Emory Vandy etc. Dont be so sure about UGA. UGA is gettin harder to get into, and they want kids with higher SAT's and high GPA's to boost their stats. Being a Georgia resident i know plenty of kids who have gone to Emory, Vandy, and Duke. With your current SAT/GPA you'll never get in, so better work on it!

You plan on getting straight A's next semester? Cool, I plan on saving the world this fall (watch for me, I'll be the guy in the blue shirt with the blah blah blah...). It's nice to make predictions, it's better to get results. Best of luck to the both of us,

Listen man, I've been lurking these forums for a while now, and I've done research on just about every school on the east coast, if your WEIGHTED GPA is a 3.4, and you're only pulling off around an 1800 SAT, those school's are dreams unless you are a star athlete, win some amazing national competition, or are a URM. Put it this way, I have a 3.5 GPA, and a 4.1 or so weighted GPA, and I'm not considering applying to those schools, and I can almost gaurantee my SAT's and ACT's will range higher than the 1800 mark, so, just try and put things in perspective, don't think you can't go anywhere, just don't have such ridiculously high standards. Good luck, btw, I'll help you out in looking if you let me know the rest of your stats, what you're interested in, etc :)

You have crappy gpa, SAT scores, and ecs. Get them up, or be prepared for a series of rejection. This is the truth. I doubt you'll even get to UGA with those stats.
