what the heck, how'd i get in?

2.92UW GPA Fresh - Junior
3.03UW including midyear Senior Grades

Average is supposed to be 3.6 GPA

1410 SAT or 2030

800 math
610 reading
620 writing

got into engineering by the way.

if your class rank is in the top 10, you may have a shoot.

Actually you got into pre-engineering. You have to apply to engineering after a year.

If you are out of state your GPA won't matter. They don't care about GPA's as much for out of state students because they don't know all the school districts. They look at class rank, if offered, and test scores. I had a 2.9 GPA and was accepted.

Remember the AVERAGE gpa is...some have to be below it.

"If you are out of state your GPA won't matter. They don't care about GPA's as much for out of state students because they don't know all the school districts."

Disregard this. Madison is a world class institution of higher learning; although their admissions statistics are seemingly low, your GPA does matter more than anything else in your application.

They have admissions counselors who are assigned to specific states and regions. They know the high schools.

They do have people assigned to states and regions, however, far too few. There are only a handful designated for New England which makes up somewhere around 500-600 students of the freshman class from many different high schools. When the rep came to our school for a meeting he had outright told us that they were not familiar with all the high shools, and that in looking at students from different areas they place an emphasis on test scores over GPA, while in state students have more of an emphasis on GPA over test scores.

Regardless, count yourself lucky for getting in with a GPA that low.

umm you got an 800 on the math section of the SAT and got into the "pre" engineering program and you're wondering why you were accepted???? come on now..
