What the heck is going on here?!?

I found out about the decisions for 9 of 11 of my colleges. I am utterly baffled and shocked, and I need some advice:

Columbia: waitlisted
UPenn: waitlisted
Brown: rejected
Cornell: waitlisted
Swarthmore: waitlisted
Haverford: waitlisted
Kenyon: waitlisted
Bard: accepted
NYU: accepted (Presidential Scholarship, their biggest merit award--goes to top 8% of admitted students)
Northwestern, Wesleyan: (waiting to hear)

Yes, that's right. I was waitlisted by SIX schools. My problem is, how could I get waitlisted by Ivies but not accepted at schools like Haverford, and especially Kenyon (which was supposed to be one of my safeties according to my GC!!)? Was there something so disconcerting in my file that all these schools delayed making a final decision? Should I send updates/grades/appeal letters/recs to ALL of these schools, even though my chances of acceptance are next to nothing? It seems like I'm applying to college all over again. Please help out!

Wow - I would send letter indicating to schools why their school is the perfect fit for you. Remember, a lot of these schools don't have 'appeals' for rejections. Just send a concise letter concerning recent updates to your resume and a succinct explanation of why 'x' college is the college for you. Good luck!

thanks for the advice! bump...
