What is this?!?!

People keep talking about SCEA!

What is this?!?!

Single Choice - Early Action

Specifically, you can only apply early action to that one school. Harvard, Yale, and Stanford have this policy.

Not quite true.......you can apply to a rolling admission school that doesn't notify early....like UMich or Purdue or take your pick.

OHH!!! LOL - I thought it was a special division or school of a University. Wow...I'm special.

We ALL come here to learn.....to ride the learning curve steeply and quickly. I'll bet many folks here didn't know SCEA when they fist began lurking and you are a poster so welcome.

I've always wanted to know: How do the schools know that you did not apply to any other schools EA? Do you have to sign something? What happens if you do apply to other schools EA? What is the purpose in doing this?

You will sign the application agreement, your HS guidance counselor will know and thus have a professional obligation to follow the rules as well. IF you apply to other schools and violate the contract likely ALL acceptances will be recinded and you will end up at your local community college or state university.

The purpose of SCEA is to allow you to let a school know that you want to go there very much, are ready to commit but are waiting for perhaps your financial aid award to compare with another school whom you won't hear from until Spring notification. This replaces ED which was if accepted by the school was a binding agreement regardless of the financial package. SCEA gives kids who need financial aid a chance to "go early" and still have the ability to compare OPM.

Actually, you can apply rolling admissions with early notification. You can even apply early to non-rolling admissions schools, provided they call the admission anything but "early action" or "early decision." Some schools require apps to be in by a certain date for scholarship and/or joint admissions to early med programs. This is permitted.

Good points to cover......very thorough explanation. Geeez I feel like i did a weak job....you have bested me in a best way.

Not trying to best anyone.
