What the heck!!!???

My S received an email today telling him that a "correction" was made to his FAFSA. Well . . . WE didn't make the correction. When we looked at the new SAR, it was exactly the same as the old SAR, i.e., no correction was made.

When we called the FAFSA folks they said one of the (7) schools he has listed on his FAFSA had hit the correction button, but that there was no change to the FAFSA. We ended up talking to five (count them - 5) different FAFSA people (including 1 supervisor) who could not tell us why this school did this. One person suggested that because we had to go through the verification process, the school was simply showing that they had completed the verification process i.e., verification shows up as "correction".

I sure hope the other schools don't think that my S has committed to this school. He is waiting to hear from 2 more schools and get in all financial aid offers/scholarship offers before he makes his final decision. Anybody else have this happen to them? Since each of the 7 schools my S applied to has been asking for the verification docs, does this mean 7 different "corrections" are going to show up on his FAFSA?

Relax, this happened to us too. Nothing changed so there is no need to worry. I don't think that you have to worry about it showing up 7 times either. Usually just one school hits the wrong button. Be glad they didn't change your FAFSA to make your EFC higher:)

So none of the other schools are going to think that my S has committed to the school who hit the wrong button? Do I need to call the other schools and confirm that my S is still very interested in them?

Also, he is a NMF and hasn't picked his first choice school yet because he is waiting to hear from the last two schools and the FA offers from the other schools into which he has been accepted. We sure don't want the school who messed up to show up as the first choice school.

Relax. Your kid isn't the only one who applies to more than one school. You don't need to do anything.

One reason I worry is that I worked for three years in FA, and at the school where I worked a "correction" would be sent to the back of the line. After all the rush to get all docs in on time, it is very frustrating to think that my S is now back at the end of the line for FA consideration all because one school hit the wrong button. This could really mess him up for scholarship consideration.

Also, one of the FAFSA folks told me that only the school where my son will attend will make any corrections. I hope this isn't true because it could look to the other schools like he has accepted this school's offer. Just don't want them to stop the application/scholarship process for him because this one school messed up.

Hoping I'm just stressing out for no reason . . .
