I was reading assist.org for UCR. For bio majors it says you must have at least a 2.7 in all transferable coursework. ??? Since when does this *ing school have such high standards? You get one C+ and all of a sudden you're automatically rejected?

That’s the average GPA for all transferable classes combined.

How do you get a C+ at a CC?

And wwlink is right, it’s a 2.7 cumulative GPA, which is super low.

^it’s possible if we’re talking about hardcore science classes.

No no, I mean literally how can you get a C+? I’ve never seen a CC that did anything beside straight grading (A, B, C, D, F)

Maintaining a B average at community college is not asking a lot, damnit.

If you had a 3.0 GPA over 60 units and got a C in a chem class (5 units at my CC), you’d walk away with a 2.92 GPA.

Do that again, and you’d have a 2.85 GPA. ;)

why stereotype UCR? There is nothing wrong with UCR. If I could get a guarantee to the UCR/UCLA Thomas Haider Program in Biomedical Sciences, I would go in a heartbeat.

UCR isn’t that bad of a school. If you want to talk bad about a school, talk about UCM.

UCR stereotypes are there for a reason. Ranked against the rest of the country’s universities, it’s really not bad. Compared to the UCs, it’s either at the bottom or fighting Merced for cellar supremacy.

They graduate something like 68% of their students, which is the worst of all the UCs, it’s in Riverside (which I lived in for a while, and can attest to its crappiness), they accept damn near everyone who applies AND they send out admissions decisions a few months before everyone else does in hopes of wooing you in.

The way they made it sound was that you couldn’t get anything lower than a B- in any given class. And no just because it’s CC doesn’t mean it’s easy, O-Chem and Physics is hard no matter where you go.

And I wasn’t trying to bash UCR, I was just amazed that they would have this requirement (well I thought it was at the time).
