What the what!

so it's been FOREVER since I've been on this site and now I'm really nervous

I remember how lame it was but please chance me

Applied: UCLa and Cal
GPA: 3.75
Major: Psychology

Pre reqs are done for both schools

chances?

thanks guys

How are your essays, ECs? Any jobs?

essays were good (8/10…it’s kinda hard to rate myself but I had my TAP rep help a lot on it)
EC’s: Psych club, Psi Beta honor society in psychology, APA convention in Boston 08
Jobs: After school Elementary School Teacher for my 1st year in cc
I’m also in UC Berkeley’s TAP program and was in the Starting Point Mentorship Program (I was in SPMP until this semester)
I dunno if that helps

I don’t think you’re GPA is high enough…no backup plan?

sorry, but honestly you’re probably not going to get into UCLA and Berkeley

1234 is talking out of his bunghole, your GPA is competitive against other psych majors. Considering that you also have TAP under your belt, your chances stand good.

last yr’s average for psych admits: 3.67
you: 3.75

with TAP, your chances are awesome

i think you have a great chance as well, you are safely above the average it seems for psych. majors and have tap. best of luck to you!

Agreed. You have a really good shot, at least I think. Psychology major here too! [:

Good luck and stop stressing. You make me stress. I don’t think I can wait that long. April 30th?! Little more over a month. Yikes. :/

deleted

what are you guys talking about?..psyc majors compete with all social science majors, not just other psyc majors

a 3.75 is low for social science, and TAP for cal doesn’t help (he/she doesn’t have it “under his/her belt”, you just sign up for it if you qualify)…

I was told by a transfer rep from Cal that av GPA for social science admits was a 3.85 last year and that the number would probably increase this year. A 3.75 gives him/her a chance, but not a good one

(sorry to be harsh 6545498452 but that’s my take on it)

i don’t get it, each major GPA average is seperate, why would it be all summed up under “Social Sciences”, a psych. major needs a higher GPA than a Sociolgoy major. You must be talking about just Cal because that is not how it works for the major GPA’s at UCLA.

yeah that’s how berk works, not ucla. and i still believe she has a great shot at cal.

yeah me too, but i think it’s a “he” :-)

correction: he

haha

thread topic heading is really informative. . .

3.75 low GPA? your going nuts, it’s competitive enough to get you anywhere as long as you did the prereqs, IGETC, and good essays. Maybe bus econ, biology, and communications the GPA needs to be higher, but in most majors in letters and sciences it is good enough. good luck everyone

let’s kill this thread, even though i think he/she/it has a weak chance

1234…why does he/she have a weak chance? please explain. Do you think psychology is as competitive as bus econ, biology and communications? we’re talking about UCLA by the way

well…6565465983218854 sent me his/her essay…let’s just say I wasn’t too impressed

that in combination w/ his/her GPA, EC’s, and major doesn’t make them a competitive candidate in my eyes

why do you think he/she stands such a good chance? a 3.75 is okay…not amazing

For psychology at berkeley last year, 136 people applied from california community colleges as california residents with a gpa between 3.60 - 3.79. 41 of these people were accepted. thats a 30% chance.
