yeah, an EA that releases decisions later than most other programs
But think of the bright side, only a few more days!

The double standard about telling a small group of applicants about the whole staggered decision thing while the rest of us are left in the dark. And on the 31st, some will wonder why others are getting the results earlier than they are.

I’m happy UNC offers EA. I’m not happy that they picked this year to switch to a new computer system that pushes decisions back a day.

UNC shouldn’t offer EA if it’s not actually going to be EARLY.

Don’t get me wroung I love the EA but it doesn’t offer much other than hearing back sooner. I like the schools that offer EA decisions soon enough that if you don’t get in to be able to apply to other schools. I thought that was the whole point of EA?

UNC’s EA is so late that most other deadlines have past.

You can say all you want, but at least we dont have to wait until late march to find out.

watch UNC delay another day on the date they promised they would send out the decisions.

This whole process is starting to seem quite unfair:
- Likely letters for the “select few”
- Tar Heel Shadow, again, for the “select few”
- Phone calls 3 days before decisions are released for the “select few”
The last one really raises my ire. Why can’t they wait to make the calls after decisions (3 days shouldn’t make a difference to the students who make the calls). All it does is make those who aren’t included in these activities feel more stressed out. Since the date was moved out for decisions, I feel the date for phone calls should have been moved out as well. And perhaps even the Shadow Day. I mean, we all know that those who get the letters, the visit and now the phone calls are going to be accepted. I just don’t think an impressive blog makes up for these decisions. Students will feel bad enough on the day that decisions are posted should they be rejected or deferred. My daughter already feels bad that she has not been included in any of the 3 listed above and I know it’s left her feeling negatively about UNC. If you’re reading this Mr. Farmer, please do better next year with the timing.

^THANK YOU!!! That is EXACTLY what I have been thinking.

Interesting. I’ve heard that some prospective students are getting phone calls as well from current students. The current students tell them about the decisons online and say they’ll be calling back. Sounds like an early acceptance.

But it seems like the rest of the applicants are in the dark. Why is that so? This new system has done NOTHING but RAISE anxiety for EVERYONE involved. Why fix something that isn’t broke and have EVERYONE go through with this nonesense? Schools less prestigious don’t deal with this. It is just extremely frustrating that so many little ‘hints’ are given out to few people, but the rest of us have to put up with this excretion…?

I posted that on their blog. I’m really starting to feel animosity towards UNC for this torture. I loved it when I applied and all, but now…

I think given the massive amounts of students that apply, Carolina tries very hard to look holistically at applications. For the extra time it takes, it is worth it. I know students who were accepted last year with sub-par scores but are excelling at UNC due to their creativity and writing skills. UNC’s ability to gauge those non-measurable attributes is tremendous.

Part of the problem, from what I’ve heard from NCSU admissions officers (which know UNC officers), is that UNC’s new software isn’t built around admissions, per se. They have had to adapt something which was originally, I think, a financial tool for their needs. Of course there are going to be hiccups, and unfortunately for us, the year they chose to switch was this year.

Come February 1, nobody will care about the wait any longer. The new wait will be for high school classes to end. Just stop and smell the roses on the way.

I hear where you all are coming from and understand the frustration. I just want to say a few things that may help to ease your minds. Those who got likely letters are the same applicants who received the Tar Heel Shadow invitations (it was printed on the likely letter). I do think that the timing of when your application was complete and read had something to do with whether or not you got one of the likely letters - for me, everything was complete well before the deadline and so I was lucky enough to get the letter. I have a feeling that the letters went to those students with extra curricular’s that “jumped off the page”, especially students with lots of leadership and initiative. That being said, please remember that the vast majority of accepted students have not received a likely letter or a phone call. Good luck to all of you and let’s keep our fingers crossed for some good news on Sunday:)

I’m not complaining about the deadline(it’s not as early as hoped) but what really irks me are all of these little ‘hints’ they send out to a few people, leaving the rest in the dust. I mean why don’t they announce on their wonderful blog that they are going to stagger admissions? Is that information only for the wonderful tarheel shadowers? Why don’t they announce that some people may be receiving calls? Why do they do this, and THEN claim to holistically review every applicant. It’s just sad that a school i like so much can make me so upset.

It’s just my luck that THIS year they choose to switch systems. But still, their old system worked last year and years before. Why fix something that isn’t broken?

You’re right. After decisions(No matter what) I won’t really be upset anymore. It’ll be over.

Cost. The economy and lower funding has affected everything, likely.

So can someone clear this up for me because I’ve been hearing so many different things. When will the decisions come out. (DON’T answer if your relying on information from past years because, obviously, if that information was right, we would’ve know our decision by Jan. 14th and we wouldn’t be here)

And, also, where did you get that info (No opinions!)

The Blog clearly says they will come out on the 31st; others have reported that people at UNC have told them it will be staggered throughout the day on the 31st, but it will definitely be on the 31st

Is anyone else worried that the snow will cause the decisions to be delayed?

no because its online

The fact that they are releasing the decisions on Sunday implies that they need to do something to prepare for releasing the decisions tomorrow, and if they cannot drive to work, they might not be able to accomplish this something.

I’m not worried

I dont see how we can be impacient at this point. Its been long enough and our decisions are all made at this point. So its just another day or so.
