Should I actually simulate the actual practice test by waking up early each day and doing it? Or should I just take it when I am most awake and ready?

Well, see, the SAT doesn’t start up that early, and even if it does, you should be awake and ready by that time. So, in that case, take it in the latter condition.

You will never perfectly mimic the actually conditions of the SAT, unless you’re on crack or something. So taking the test early won’t really do you any good but make you more tired during the day. Just take it when you’re ready under timed condition. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter how you practice and when you practice, as long as you’re really practicing and not really thinking about the next episode of whatever the hell it is you watch, then you will progress.
