What to Ask the Head of the English Department?

I begin college in Fall 2013. I still haven't picked a school, but I've narrowed it down to two. At least I've picked my major: English. I'm going to one of the schools in a few days to meet with the head of their English department. What are some questions I should make sure to ask? Thanks in advance.

This doesn’t seem like a standard practice, so I wonder why you’re doing it. That answer should suggest some questions.

My older son interviewed the heads of English Dept. at each school we visited. I don’t know speciffically what he asked, as he would not let my wife or I into the room until the taslking was over. I know he asked questions that were not to be found on the school’s website, as he was interested in digging out deeper information. There was only one school that would not accomodate him with a formal interview.
It helped him to make his decisions on each school. I believe that each of the teachers started by asking his gpa and test scores, to make sure he was a qualified applicant , at the beginning of the interview. Most of the teachers were impressed at his initiative in making the appointment and being curious about their program.

Good luck to you.
