I notice on the "What to Bring" list on the Scripps website a laptop lock. Are those generally used?

Might want to think about this instead of a laptop lock:

LoJack for Laptops - Stolen Computer Recovery Service

My daughter didn't have a laptop lock but I got the insurance to cover her dorm room contents. I just heard about lojack for laptops last night and it sounds like a good idea. I would think any kind of physical laptop lock would have a good chance of not being used.

I never knew anyone who used a laptop lock, although it was advised when I was a freshman, too. If anyone owned them, they were never pulled out.

I do think that I had dorm insurance, as kcpdmp mentioned.

Thanks for the feedback. I want my D to have everything she needs but a laptop lock just didn't seem to fit the campus I saw. I think I'll strike that off the list.

She should be just fine. Do encourage her to lock the door whenever the room will be empty (and at night)--no matter how many people leave their rooms open, it's just a good precaution--and you'll never even have to worry :)

I checked with my daughter and she said noone she knew used a laptop lock.
And I know one of her roommates had one, so she was not using it.

Thanks everybody. I think I won't waste money on the lock.
