What to bring to audition?

Well my DD's first audition is almost here (1/16) and I would like some advice from parents who have been thorough this on what I need to bring for DD. I will have water and some light snacks for her and she will have a separate bag with her dance clothes, music, etc. What other items did you find useful to have on hand?

For myself I will have a couple of books and magazines and my IPOD and probably some Zanex! Thanks in advance for your tips.

showmom, it sounds like you have it all nailed down. Maybe add a few extra copies of her headshot and resume, and yes, something for you to read. It will all be fine. Relax!

We also had extra copies of D’s transcript, letters of recommendation, any supporting materials the school had requested in advance. I also carried a small first aid kit with safety pins and needle and thread in it as well. Just in case…

My D’s next audition is also on 1/16. We’ll be at Baldwin-Wallace. Any chance that’s where y’all are headed?

There are other things I would bring as “extra copies”…

Have a second audition outfit and dance outfit as something can spill, get ripped, lost, etc.

If you have required recorded accompaniment, have extra CDs of it and have parent hold extras separately from kid’s audition bag.

Have extra copies of the sheet music that parent holds separately from kid due to damage or loss.

Also, have print outs of all directions to school, to buildings, and other information the school has sent you…bring entire file you have on that school with you.

Thanks for all of the tips so far. I will put together a little first aid kit to bring. DD has the extra head shots, resumes and transcripts as well as the information each school requested she bring to the audition.

I will have her make extra copies of sheet music and CD’s for me to hold.

austinmtmom - DD’s audition on 1/16 is at JMU.

soozievt - I will bring along the file we have for the school as well as all of my directions.

Bring lots of hugs, positive thoughts and your calmness…it helped my so much that my dad kept me relaxed by telling me jokes and keeping everything in perspective. He reminded me of all of my successes so far, and that I had done everything I could do to prepare myself. He told me they’d be lucky to have me…you just can’t help stressing out when you are already comparing yourself to everyone else. The audition ended up being truly fun…and I got in!

Well said Nick21792!! Congratulations as well, your dad is correct they are lucky to have you! Positive thoughts, being yourself, and being prepared allows you to be relaxed and programs want to know who you are, not just the talent you bring.

nick21792 - Thank you for your wonderful advice. I will give lots of hugs and encouragement as I always do to DD. She has been working on all of her material for months and is well prepared to begin auditions. I will remind her of that if she starts freaking out! My job is just to love her and support her while she shows the schools how she can shine.
